Better than I expected - and my expectations were high.

TL;DR: Really good! I'd bet it's made in the same factory as Ibanez's Axion Label guitars, 'cause it feels like one to me (but at half the price). Plays smooth, looks great, sounds great for metal AND more nuanced stuff. 10/10.

This is HB's serious attempt at that Schecter/Ibanez/LTD range of guitars: legit metal instruments that you can tour and record with, but still cost less than say, a Fender American Standard.

This is my favorite type of guitar, to be honest: something that doesn't feel like a display piece. Something you don't have to be precious with, but still plays and sounds like a dream. My touring days are probably over, and COVID means no gigs, so this is a recording piece for the most part.

So here's HB's entry. It's cheaper than the others, but possibly made by Cor-tek in the same Indonesian factory as my Ibanez Axiom Label? Whether it is or not, it belongs next to that guitar, while costing half as much.

The green burst looks decidedly dragon-like, it plays wonderfully - reminds me of Schecter, which I mean as high praise - and sounds absolutely killer.

The EMG Retro-Actives are quite the surprise: they don't bludgeon your amp to death, so you'll still want an overdrive. But honestly, they do gentle clean, low-gain, subtle sounds really well! Very different from my Fender EOB strat, but of similar quality.

Of all the things, I bought this guitar for ska-punk more than metal, and it does BRILLIANTLY. That same crisp clarity I'd expect from an EMG-loaded metal axe, but the nuance of a good passive pickup. Perfect.

Also, it shreds and chugs like a monster. No surprise there.

All in all, I'm immensely pleased. The headstock was chipped in shipping, Thomann shaved a little off the price for me.

Because there's no way in hell they're getting this guitar back from me. :)

Emerald axe for metal warrior \m/

Maple veneer is more nondescript than in the photo. It looks indistinct, the drawing of the tree structure is very expressionless, almost transparent, unlike the examples in the photographs.
However, the look of the face of the soundboard and the headstock looks nice.
The paintwork is well done, but not perfect. There are very minor negligence, however, this is all nonsense. The painting method is rather complicated. Part of the body is painted over, the other part exposes the wood. The neck is also not painted over, which further accentuates the attention to the neck construction through the body. I understand that for this price it is almost impossible to do this kind of paint work perfectly. The back is translucent: through a layer of green paint I can see the mahogany body and it's nice.
The neck is pretty slippery: it is covered with the same matte varnish as the body.
I am pleased with the choice of wood for the neck. The center piece of the neck was radial sawed - my compliments!
The fretboard is good. I don't know what ebony wood should be like, but the fretboard is dark throughout the entire of board. Frets is polished.
The guitar has fantastic sustain. If you disconnect the battery, these EMGs sound like passive pickups lol.
I also ran into two previously known Amarok problems:
The volume knob scratching wood. But it is enough to pull it a little and everything is ok.
I also ran into the fact that the jack was held in the socket incorrectly. I had to unscrew the the cable socet and was fold back the contact plate, which fixes the cable inside. It takes me a couple of minutes, but the problem has been relevant since the first batch of Amarok. Why it has not been fixed until now is a mystery to me.
Overall, considering the specs and this price, the guitar is amazing.

very good quality but feels a bit cheaper than my HB-35 Plus which costs less and has more pickup options like splitting coils . As a shredding guitar its tops, so perhaps the smaller size and lighter weight throw me off. Also not really comparable in sound and action to a semi-hollow body. Well worth the price if this is what you want.
