I can't believe Vintage turn out guitars like this and the Lemon Drop for the prices they do. The sound from both models is pure quality.
The Vintage single-coils are noisy as you would expect from single-coil pickups, but have much reduced noise in the two "mixed" positions. Even then the noise is still there at high gain, but no worse than a Strat for sure.
Check out Roy Fulton and/or Dave Simpson on youtube to see how nice this guitar (and the Lemon Drop) sounds. You have to hear them to understand how good they can be.
Looking for a low price Strat form China direct, Harley Benton or Vintage I decided to go with the most expensive option, the Vintage V6, which had some good reviews online.
First impressions after a fast, secure shipment from Thomann; the packaging which needs to live through international shipping was fairly flimsy but the guitar on initial once-over looked good with nice paint finish.
Closer inspection showed a couple of small rough spots on the finish which could be due to the manufacturer or Thomann removing for photo shoot. The strings were too deeply seated in the nut, possibly cut for heavier gauge strings. The fret ends on the treble side were really poorly finished and are very sharp on the hands.
Plugged in, the guitar sounds reasonably Strat like but has fairly heavy "Wolf tones" which might mean that pickups need to be retracted, hopefully that will cure the problem as I have not experienced this before on any of my previously owned guitars, including three Strats, two Fender, one Tom Anderson. Checking the tuning, the intonation was way out on all but the first string. As mentioned in my review of the Vintage V52 (Telecaster style) bought along with this one, my previous five guitar purchases have been, direct from China, low priced guitars modelled after famous American makes. All great guitars with less problems than this one and at lower price points.
Overall, with some work, the guitar should be a nice one but I cannot help but wonder if I had bought the Harley Benton at half the price, would it have needed as much work?
