Thomann Bouzouki-Guitar Deluxe, made in Europe, spruce top, guitar-body made of Ovangkol, bouzouki-neck, fingerboard made of Australian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon), open pore, tuning: aA-dd-aa-dd or gG-dd-aa-ee , scale length: 65,0 cm.
When it arrived there was terrible fret-buzz on the lower string and the top three strings couldn't be played at all below the 6th fret, they were just dead. Also any sounds I could get from it were horrible and metallic.
I had to take the truss-rod cover off and wind the truss-rod up a good bit before all the strings came free of the frets. Once that was done the action was still OK, if a bit on the springy side. Fine, because I have plenty of guitar-playing callouses.
The instrument plays really well now and has lovely long sustain and is not as metallic sounding as it was before I adjusted the rod. I don't like the cheap octave-paired strings, will replace with a decent set of D'Addario unison strings. That should give me some more bottom end to the sound.
<EDIT> The bass pair as standard is thin octave string at the bottom and then the heavier bass string. You can't replace the thin string without getting bad fret-buzz. Adjusting the truss-rod won't remove it. I filed down the frets to move the buzz far enough up to a place where I won't fret notes. Don't do this unless you know what you are doing. Leave the octave pair on. </EDIT>
Beware, there is no end button. I attached a button but there is no end-block inside the guitar so it is only screwed into the thin plastic binding, but it seems stable.
All in all, happy with it for a cheap instrument. The wood looks lovely and it sounds good now. If I stick with the instrument I'll buy a decent luthier-made Bizzarre/Gadzouki/Bazar whatever you like to call it :)
