After upgrading the originals in my Fender Deluxe Reverb amp to JJ's, which are excellent, I thought I'd try a pair of these. They sound DIFFERENT to the JJ's, with a more "American" twang to the tone, clean and clear top end and crisp bass. The main difference is a bit less aggressive punch to the midrange (I like that !) which may not be for you, but sounds lovely for fingerpicking. This is probably closest to the original sound of these amps when Leo Fender first designed them. If you want more punch, go with the JJ's. If you want the original sound, go with these. While they don't "Bite" so much, they certainly do "Growl" when driven harder.
I had a homebuilt amp that I'd had fitted with 6L6 for some time but was never quite happy with the sound. I was looking on Thomann for some new pre-amp valves when I noticed these TAD RT832 Tube 6V6GT-STR in a matched pair, or 'Duett'. I hadn't heard of them but as a long time customer of Thomann who has only ever received top service and excellent products at low prices, I felt confident that these would be good. Ordering was easy and delivery was quick. When they arrived, I had modded my amp to run the 6V6s so I put them straight in. The sound is superb, strong lows and beautiful highs without getting spikey. Great clarity! This amp is never going to see 6L6s again. Now I'm working on a 5E3 circuit and it will definitely be getting a 'Duett' of these TAD 6V6s!
