Does what it's supposed to do
Ishoey 15.06.2023
The build quality seems good at first glance. It features a metal casing with an industrial look. The unit feels sturdy. However, the finish leaves something to be desired. For instance, the LED indicators are not evenly placed in their sockets. Some LEDs sit further back than others. Another area of concern is the USB ports. They are somewhat flimsy and don't secure the USB cable very well. On my unit, there are 3 ports with this issue.

The unit is cooled by a fan. When running 3 - 4 USB MIDI controllers, there's no problem. However, when more devices are connected, or if power-hungry units such as phones or computers are involved, the fan starts to run. For live use on stage, it's not an issue, but in a studio setting, it's a different story. Although the fan can be easily replaced with a better one, it shouldn't be necessary.

The unit employs a USB B to USB A connection to link with the computer. With most new computers (let's face it - we all use Macs for live performances) running USB-C/Thunderbolt, this can be rather annoying. Resorting to dongles or unconventional cables is not the most optimal solution.

Despite these issues, the unit is reasonably good for the price. You can't really expect a professional piece of equipment at this cost. Personally, I'm looking to replace my unit with a more reliable one.

The best Hub Ever
Safwat 27.09.2020
I am using the Swissonic USB Hub 1916 since 2 months for my Studio equipment, I am connecting the following:
Komplete Kontrol S88
Maschine Jam
Maschine MK 3
2 X 5 TB Drives
Midi Hub
Korg Wavestate
Akai 25
Launch Control
Launch Pad X
AKAI MIDI Mix
Behringer Xenyx X1622USB
Focusrite 8i6
and
12.9 iPAD
iPhone

and it is working amazingly well with no hustle. it is so powerful with its 198 watts of power, all equipment are working seamlessly.

It is one of my best investments.

The only one issue I faced is that it has no comprehensive user manual, only one brief datasheet. and when I had some questions I've sent an email to the support team and I did not get any reply. Also there is no reference anywhere on the internet nor a website.

However, the product is amazing and working perfectly well, and I am thinking of buying another one as a backup, as all my studio equipment are depending on that single source of data so I need a backup.

Unfortunately unstable with an Macbook Pro M1 13" (2020)
RvdB 01.03.2023
I was looking for a 19" solution for all my usb needs as there were too many hubs and docks flying around, making a spaghetti monster of cables.

However, the unit looks great and solid, but the functionality is unfortunately not stable in my case. The LEDS don't light up on all the hardware. Mostly only harddrives. Some of my hard drives are connecting/disconnecting frequently which doesn't happen directly connected or other hub/docks.

Next to that, I'm forced to connect this unit to a USB-C dock, as I only have 2 ports (Thunderbolt 4) on my Macbook Pro M1. 1 port needs to be dedicated for my Thunderbolt audio interface and the other... well you guessed it; for the USB-C dock and this Swissonic Hub. The Swissonic hub is connected to the USB-C dock, but even if I connect it directly I experience these errors with the dock. It seems more that my Macbook Pro is struggling with all these connections and docks/hubs.

Probably sell the unit 2ndhand when the time arrives, but it doesn't seem like a faulty unit.

Great USB hub for Studio Applications
Hobo Coco 02.10.2019
Good Solidly made USB hub,1U Metal casing, looks like it would survive life on the road, great that it's rack mountable also,I had looked around for a decent USB hub that catered for larger USB port counts for a while, which wasn't one of those annoying desktop models,I wish it had a few more ports on the Back though as well and that each port was able to be switched on/off,really pleased with this product, works flawlessly, both with USB thumb drives and USB powered devices, and also charges the phone which is handy!!!!my only negative is the USB 3.0 type B cable thats it supplied with is a little on the short side ,would have been nicer to have a longer cable since my rack is not situated near to the Computer,(I have since purchased a longer cable)Overall a good product,if a little bit overpriced for what it is,but suppose there is very little else on the market which offers the same aesthetics and practicalities, easy to use, just simply plug and play, and doesn't seem to suffer power failures to the Connected devices like some of the standalone hubs I've use, a no fuss USB hub, would recommend it for any who wants a decent USB hub with plenty of ports for studio use.
