I was a bit skeptical when buying this microphone. A large diaphragm condenser microphone for just 60 euros? I had my doubts. Although I didn't needed it for super duper professional purposes, at least I wanted to invest on something that was clean enough to record my voice for some radioshows I'm doing. The shows are broadcasted via FM so you know the bitrate gets a major downgrade and the compression is crazy, so any "hum" or "pss" or any kind of noise would be very noticeable to the listener at home.
When the microphone arrived I was quite happy with the fact that it even included a box! Not that I was pretending on moving the microphone a lot (given it needs phantom power, I don't have many ways to use it outside) but at least there was a safe place for me to keep it in between uses - don't consider keeping it on more flimsy microphone stands like the Milleniums! Read on and you will learn why.
This microphone is heavy - REALLY heavy. I wasn't expecting this. And considering I bought the Millenium MS-2005 I thought this meant trouble. The stand really has some trouble handling the weight but with some tricks it gets the job done although this won't be a solution to everyone.
I connected the microphone to my cheap analog mixer into Ableton, did some calibrations on the mixer's EQ and pooof! I was shocked. The sound is clear and warm, perfect for vocals and acoustic guitars. Finger snaps sound awesome as well and I even recorded some shakers with my salt dispenser just for fun. My voice sounds awesome when I'm doing the radioshows!
So, great bang for the buck as people say. Great, warm sound for low budgets.
Pros: Cheap, clean, good looking microphone with a nice case!
Cons: Maybe a bit too heavy, consider this when buying the stand. A bit smelly: months later and it still has this oil-ish smell that is somewhat pungent.
But the cons are nothing compared to the satisfaction it brings when recording.
