The Recording King RG-32 is a great starting point for anyone looking to try a lap steel for very little outlay. It's almost as cheap as building a home-made "Diddly bow", only this is a very serious product. Recording King is a company steeped in Down-South 1930s American Musical history now outsourcing some products to the Far East but not to it's detriment. The Guitar is a beautiful Sunburst finish with a white Pearloid neck and the Body is Mahogany which helps the sound of the well voiced P90 Bridge pickup. The String through body is another great addition for tuning stability and the guitar actually arrived fully in tune which was unbelievable. The sound is very clear and you could lose hours just toying with this through an amp. This is a great instrument for someone looking to play deep somber slides on a porch in a rocking chair, Hawaiian/country style backing or crazy Ethereal, otherworldly sounds through effects units with their recording projects. The guitar is very well finished, great quality and extremely affordable. Again China comes to the fore with a brilliant product costing very little.
There are two versions of this guitar, and when i made my purchase , both were 124.eur. Thomann really take care when sending you stuff, and as usual, the guitar was delivered promptly, and very well packaged, it gives you confidence to buy again. This particular guitar i got ,didnt have any slots in the nut or saddle, and the strings were very loose; - so no set up at all. Icould have returned it, but decided to do my own setup. Now the guitar sounds and plays great, the tone is fantastic - full and rich, the pick-up is a good humbucker and all the electric stuff feels well made good quality. The volume and tone controls have(it seems) been set-up for steel guitar, so its very easy to do volume swells, and using the same technique with tone control produces sounds similar to cry-baby and wah-wah. The tuners etc are fine, there is a quality feel to this instrument. Im very pleased with this, and i intend using it for gigs, its simple, small, portable, great sound, and the tone-vol controls are an unexpected bonus. Iv been a steely for many years, and this guitar, made in china, is a good quality, fab sounding steel, and very good price. I got the bag as well - fits perfect.
