Look at the device, and you will notice that there are only two buttons: Record and stop. This is too limited for anyone who needs remote access to other useful features like playback and volume.
The wireless remote is small and handy, with a replaceable tiny battery. For the remote signal to be picked up, the transmitter has to be quite accurately pointed at the receiver. According to the user instructions, it should work at a distance of up to 5 meters, but I have not experimented with any distance beyond 1 meter, and it worked.
It is helpful that the remote will provide 1-press recording for compatible Olympus recorders that otherwise require two button presses before recording actually begins. This also means that you will need to set your gain levels prior to pressing the record button.
