Mackie Rack Ears (ProFX12 and other similar units)
I'm building a small-venue PA from scratch, and liked the features on a friend's Mackie mixer - so the ProFX12 was step one. Next came a Crown 1500 amp, then the realisation that these delicate items need to be bolted into a rackmount flightcase to avoid damage travelling, so a Citronix case was bought. Of course the mixer then needed some "ears" to attach it to the case; my first thought was to make them myself - however, a couple of tries later that was abandoned (they need to be very accurately made and drilled and are a pretty awkward shape). So I caved in and bought them from Thomann (only place I could find them advertised). They are beautifully made, fit exactly and are solid as a rock - job done. Installation took ten minutes (you just have to remove the mixer's end-panels). Do take note that you need to provide your own rack nuts and screws. Although they did seem to be rather expensive for two pieces of bent metal, what price security, a good fit and a professional look?
