K&K Banjo Twin

Nice midrangey sound, cuts through the mix but don't expect it to sound exactly like you hear your banjo naturally. Kind of a retrosound, lows and highs are attenuated. I use it on my Deering Goodtime openback. No feedback issues.
One of the transducers lost contact with the self adhesive tape, but I was able to push it back on and it has stayed there since.
The outputjack won't stay put with just the supplied velcro, I had to go trough several combinations of plasticstrips to make stay on the clamps. You can of course drill a hole in the banjoside and fit it like an endpinjack on an acoustic.

I was looking for a suitable pick up for my banjo ukulele. There are many different products available and a range of prices (some are very cheap...). After quite a bit of research I decided to go for one of the more costly ones. The reasons for this are mainly based around the quality of the build and the quality of the sound. Banjos & banjo ukuleles can be difficult to amplify fin a sympathetic way. I looked at many different luthiers around the world to see what pick ups they fitted and K&K banjo twin kept coming up.

Fitting was fairly straightforward although I did have to contact K&K customer service as I found the instructions slightly confusing (the pick ups come with the adhesive pads already attached and the pads in the set are spares!). K&K responded really quickly and were very friendly.

This item has the bonus of being able to fit the jack plug internal or external using the Velcro attachments provided. I opted for the external and since fitting the Velcro fitted jack plug it has not moved at all.

As a passive pick up there is not much to go wrong with them. The sound is great (loud) but in my option still needs to go through an external preamp to shape the sound.

Ostettuani banjon, otin sen melko pian mukaan treenikämpälle ja kun olin kuullut, että banjossa on niin kova ääni ettei se tarvitse vahvistinta, lähdin kokeilemaan. Huomasin kyllä heti, että kun bändissä on rummut ja soitamme sähköistettyä kantrimusiikkia niin banjon ääni jää kyllä aivan liian taustalle.

Eipä mitään, tutkin aika kauan erilaisia tapoja saada banjo kuulumaan bändisoitossa. Tilasin K&K:n Banjo Twinin ja asensin sen (helposti) banjoon ja virittelin sen jälkeen jakin sopivaan kohtaan siten, että sain banjon hihnan kulkemaan jakin ja banjon metallikehän välistä ilman jakkiin kohdistuvaa painetta.

Laitoin kitaran asetuksissa olevaan MesaBoogiini banjon ja vaikka volyymi oli melko pienellä, alkoi banjosta melkoinen akustinen kierto. No, taas tutkailin netistä ohjeita, mitä voin tehdä kierron poistamiseksi: asetin äänensävysäätimet 0-asentoon ja sitten hain oikeat volyymitasot ja katsoin banjon ja vahvistimen kulman ja etäisyyden sekä lisäsin sen jälkeen vähän (noin ykköselle) basso-tonea.

Ja avot: banjo alkoi kuulua ja volyymiakin pystyin nostamaan vähintäänkin riittäväksi bändisoittoon. Mikrofonit muuttavat jonkin verran luonnollista banjon ääntä minun mielestä normaalia kirkkaammaksi ja siihen voi vaikuttaa banjon kopan sisäpuolelle tehtävä asennus, joka vaikuttaa resonanssiin.

Olen kuitenkin ollut tyytäväinen tähän hankintaan, vaikka banjon ääneen tuleekin vähän muutosta. Mutta nyt kun banjo on meillä kantribändissä käytössä niin onhan se ihan erilainen fiilis ja tuo kaivattua meininkiä soittoon.
