The Kala Dolphin is a pretty and quite nice sounding beginners ukulele. It is quite strong and a perfect gift for a child who may knock it about a bit. It plays fine and sounds fine, but doesn't compete with more expensive ukes. At the pricepoint I'm pleased with it. I also bought a more expensive Lanakai at the same time which is better (but more expensive...). It's far better than the toy ukes that don't keep tune - you can play nice music on it. If this is your pricepoint then you'll be pleased with it. If you can spend 20 or 30 euros more then you will get something noticeably better.
Bought this and the Red/Burst for my wife and I to use as "take anywhere" ukes. Having tried a couple out at our local club I knew what to expect and was not disappointed. They arrived in 4 working days well packed with plenty of padding. Obviously they can't be compared to other more expensive ukuleles and straight out of the box they sound pretty harsh, but fit a set of decent strings (I ordered Aquilas with them) and they come alive with a lovely mellow tone. Brilliant starter ukulele or one just to take anywhere you don't want to risk your good one.
