First of, I have an Epiphone Slash AFR which I compared this too. Build quality is way better on the SC-550, much closer to the Gibson version than the AFR, note that both guitars are build in China. As far as I can see the body is made out of one piece, neck is glued and seems to be stronger than the AFR's, the head-stock is not reinforced on the back but neither is the AFR's. Tuners and bridge are death accurate, I was impressed how well this guitar came setup, comfortable low action out of the box, something that is pretty rare. The pickups sound way better than the AFR's, they have the same amount of treble but with more bass and mids to it. I didn't move the pickups so far, so output seemed a little tad lower/less aggressive than what I got on the AFR, on the other hand, I got them as close to the strings as possible on that one. Definitely a guitar that I can recommend for rock, blues and heavy, sounds good clean too. I will most probably install better pots and a toggle switch though.
