This was my second proper electric guitar, my first being an Epiphone Casino (I had an Epiphone SG Special before that which I eventually sold on after getting this guitar. Advice for first time electric guitar buyers: save up, it'll be worth it). I always wanted a Bigsby guitar, and this was one of the cheaper ways to get one.
This has FilterTron pickups, which sound different to humbuckers due to the positioning of the coils. What's important however is the sound. The neck pickup offers some massive warm clean sounds, and it creates some great lead tones when you turn the gain up. The neck pickup nails the sound Gretsch is known for, providing sharp aggressive tones that are great for power chords or covering bands like the Beatles or the Who, all who used Gresches.
The Bigsby offered what I wanted from it, and it offers a great finishing touch to a solo or riff. While not as smooth as the likes of the Hagstrom Tremar (which uses a roller bridge stock), it still does the job. Tuning stability was an issue, but I highly recommend buying a roller bridge like I did to alleviate this. Fitting one allows for smoother tuning stability and Bigsby use. Just be careful, as mine was an extremely tight fit and required some filing inside the roller bridge holes.
Everything arrived the way it should have and shines in almost every aspect. Features gets almost full marks as it offers a Bigsby at a competitive price point, rivalled mainly by the semi-hollow P90 equipped Epiphone Wildkat. It didn't come with a roller bridge as stock however, but then again, neither do many other guitars in the same price bracket. The sound nails some traditional Gretsch tones and doesn't require a switch to TV Jones pickups for me, which is pretty impressive. The guitar arrived with perfect action, but the tuning stability became a problem after playing a couple songs after tuning. As said, a roller bridge can fix this problem.
I recommend this guitar to anyone who'd like a Bigsby-equipped guitar and a guitar capable of nailing some classic tones. Also worth considering are the higher-priced options that Hagstrom has to offer, such as the Super Swede Tremar. If those can't be afforded, this would still be a great option.
