I am a pro rock and blues guitarist. I have 3 Fender Stratocasters, a Telecaster, a Gibson Les Paul, a Les Paul Junior, a Les Paul Special, an ES-339 along with great amps including my Fender Reverb Deluxe, Laney Lionheart, and lately the Roland JC-22 and also many various pedals, of course.
I decided to add a Gretsch hollow body electric, well because I wanted to expand my sound vocabulary even more and this guitar is simply perfect. A very responsive, emotional instrument that has it's very own sounds completely apart from the others I use. Simply plugging this Gretsch into whatever system I had been using with any other guitar and suddenly it all opens up into a huge new world of sounds, ideas and even techniques I had not found on the other instruments.
Of course, chords sound just beautiful and really come alive on this guitar, but I am more impressed with the lead guitar tones of this guitar. Distorted, clean and everything in between and this guitar actually sings with a very confident and distinctive voice all its own.
The workmanship is absolutely top notch, regardless of this "low to mid price". Honestly, an excellent guitar that just excites me very much...the possibilities feel wide open just holding it and playing it is a true pleasure.
I would have to say that if I were to have only one guitar to express myself, I would use my Stratocaster because of the sheer variety living in it. That said, my Gretsch and I still have quite a lot to say and I would be quite proud with this excellent guitar as my one and only sound.
