I originally bought it for a practice amp for my Stagg hdb 200 upright bass, but it quickly replaced my usual Ashdown Evo III 500 through a 2x10 for smaller pub/clubs gigs and band rehearsals where I use a Fender Jazz Bass for soul music.
Handling I've not had the gain passed 1 o-clock and that's plenty loud enough to cut through a 11 piece band, reversely you can get it really quiet without the sound breaking up which is great for practising and keeps the neighbours happy. Where my Ashdown quickly became muddy or boomy the MB112-II is easier to tame in a smaller venue.
Features It's basic but at least it has a DI and input jack. What else do you need?
Sound It's a very clean sound with no discernible hiss or hum and even though I'm not a massive fan of super clean tone it's warm enough without being too clinical. With my Jazz bass it sounds great, but the jury is still out with getting a balanced sound from my Stagg whilst playing with other musicans. Obviously it's not as full a sound compared to my Ashdown and I can sometimes miss the lower frequencies, but you won't miss them if you are going through a PA with bass bins. That said the cube shape still gives it a pretty deep tone.
Quality It's really well constructed, the handle is slightly off centre so the amp leans into your leg when you're carrying it, but that's a minor complaint. It's not too heavy so you could carry it a fair distance before your arm would ache.
Verdict Great small amp for practising and gigging.
Love it. Very simple to use with sufficient power for my needs. Feels like an extension of my fingers through the bass guitar! Makes me realise i dont need a new bass guitar! I had been struggling with power in practice sessions and resorting to a plectrum for additional punch and my playing was suffering as a result. The controls on the amp are very simple and it is a no frills amp, which I like. It is actual 2kg lighter than the amp I was using but with 4x greater output at top end. I used it in a gig this week in a fair sized hall and it was ideal. It fits in the back of my car and doesn't give me a hernia when I lift it. How do they get all that power into such a light and compact amp?! I got good reviews for my performance as well!
