I bought this speaker for a Fender 30 tube combo (rewired to AB763 circuit) and it defenitely does the amp right and it outperforms the original (CTS?) ceramic speaker. This alnico speaker is only 30 Watts but while Eminence rates it's speakers very conservatively, I was not afraid to put it in a 2x6L6 amp. The speaker's efficiency is very hight while it sounds much louder than the stock (CTS?) ceramice 12" speaker, so loud that it can easily stand up to a bigger multi speaker amp with older (less efficient) speakers!! I use this amp as a handy compact/light back-up amp and it actually did a great job replacing my 50W 2x12" Twin Reverb (running only 2 powertubes and Bassman output transformer) and my 45 4x10" Super Reverb!! Everybody was looking for the other amp!
The tone of this speaker is very well balanced; it has great full lows and sparkling highs as you might expect from an alnico speaker. When driven hard, it starts to break up very nicely in pleasant way adding more crunchy mids to the sound without crapping out on the lows (which many 10" alnico speakers tend to do). I compared this speaker (using the same amps and a very similar cabinet) with a Celestion Blue Dog and imo the Red Fang comes very close in performance to the much more expensive Blue Bulldog and I seriously think some players would even prefer the Red Fang over the blue UK puppy.
Highly recommended for low power 12" combo's e.g. Deluxe Reverb, Fender 30 etc. If you need some more headroom for you tweed Deluxe, the Red Fang might be the thang for you too. I wouldn't be surprised if this speaker would be a good upgrade to cheaper low power hybrid or even transistor amps. I'm consedering mixing a Red Fang with a ceramic in my (50W) Twin Reverb. I will defenitely get one for my second Fender 30.
