What I was after was a very good sound and maximum acoustic power in the 60-80 Hz range from a SINGLE 18er. After doing a whole load of calculations to compare over 15 drivers my short list really came down to the PD-186 , the JBL-2242H and these RCF's. Most divers I looked at didn't have enough Xmax , the JBLs were just way too expensive , some has so much X max that I couldn't find an Amp to drive them with and the PD and RCF were pretty even. I chose the RCFs due to the higher BL factor and their claim that these things have "an incredibly linear frequency response characteristic and the lowest harmionic distortion of any comparable transducer". Sound goods.
Also with the 1600 W Peak on 8 Ohm available for these drivers I calculate just under 126 dB so if I'm right just ONE of these should be as loud as TWO LP300s running on 800 W each. An interesting comparison I thought.
So what did I really get ?
SOUND: ABSOLUTELY MOTHER F***ING AWESOME !
Boost up around 60-80 Hz , crank up the amp till the limiter comes in and at 1600 W these things really Kick. At this volume (bloody loud !) I'd describe the sound as tight with tons of punch and very clean. If there was any distortion I couldn't hear it which wasn't the case with the drivers I replaced.
PRICE: FAIR. At 379 Euros not exactly cheap but cheaper and less weight / size than two drivers.
OVERALL: FIVE GOLD STARS FOR RCF. HURRAH !
