Intro:
Erebus V3 is my first analog synthesizer. Having bought it, I just started to dig into the basics of synthesis. I want to share my opinion with people who, like me, are looking for the first synthesizer and possibly with more experienced users.

What i like:
In my opinion, this is certainly a great sounding synthesizer with a huge amount of features. The synth sounds very rich, a huge number of overtones are heard. It has good design and a patch bay that adds some modulation capabilities. If we talk about the oscillators (which in their trio sound extremely faaaat) and the filter, they feel the special influence of old devices from Moog. And also echo sounds fantastic and really does its job.

What i dislike:
1) First of all, I think this synthesizer is not good for beginners. I made such a conclusion based on my experience of using.
2) Secondly, it does not have normal synchronization of all 3 oscillators.
3) Thirdly, it seemed incredibly difficult for me to create the desired sound on it. Maybe due to the rather unusual arrangement of the block of oscillators and the small number of waves to choose from for the first and second oscillators.
4) The modulation matrix is ​​arranged in a very strange way and contains a lot of patches that seemed to me not very useful, while essential patch points were missed for sure. (mother-32 is much better in this regard)
5) Last but least, i really dislike build quality and portability opportunities. Obviously, this is not a portable synthesizer and so on ... But! There are no savers or covers for this model. I think this is a big omission since the synthesizer has to be transported and stored in a box. Regarding build quality, I did not really like the idea with sliders with plastic tips. They feel fragile enough, it seems to me that problems can arise with them.

A unique, characterful synth that truly manages to stand out

The Erebus is my first analogue semi-modular synth, which, after weeks of research, came out on top as being simultaneously feature-rich and individual in its approach.
The latter element was probably most important to me as I'm not necessarily interested in recreating a preexisting "classic" sound, which you would find as default on some other brands' synths.

Handling:
The layout of the synth is very user friendly (and attractive), and despite being a newcomer to modular synthesis, use of the patchbay became quite instinctive to me after only a couple of hours. Obviously, I'm still no expert, but I feel I can navigate it and do what (I think) I want fairly quickly.

Features:
Everything you'd expect from a triple oscillator analogue (duophonic or monophonic) synth, with some extra bells and whistles.
The Triple Ring feature is essentially a very musical application of ring modulation, with both settings available to use as individual sound sources (with all other oscillators turned off -- and it sounds marvellous). There is a huge range of sounds available buried within the intricacies of the Triple Mod, and it really invites experimentation.

The analogue delay is really quite good, no where near as "noisy" or "crunchy" as I'd been led to believe, it has a truly lovely analogue character, with some really nice harmonics that come through under certain circumstances.
The delay time can also be modulated using the patchbay... wink wink.

The only reason for the mark down here is that I do think individual oscillator levels for Osc 1 and 2 would have been a welcome touch. This tiny nitpick only really applies when using Osc 1 or 2 alone with Osc 3. In this context, Osc 1 (or 2) is at full volume, with no possibility to have Osc 3's volume higher than the ceiling set by Osc 1 (or 2).

I also know that some people would rather have simultaneous HP and LP filtering available to them, as opposed to the blended multimode filter, however, it is design choices like this that give the Erebus an individual character, and I fully embrace that.

Sound:
Not much to say here. It sounds fantastic. Capable of fat bass, screechy leads, pseudo woodwind, silly rainstorm sound effects... you name it. The filter is wonderful.

Quality:
It's a beautifully, and obviously lovingly, designed and constructed piece of equipment. It truly feels like it's come from a group of passionate human beings.

Conclusion:
Dreadbox obviously set out to deliver their own take on an instrument of this format, and whatever limitations there may (or may not) be, feel like conscious, well-informed, thought out decisions, which at the end of the day make for a more unique and enjoyable product.
