8. Using kitchen utensils<\/h3>\n

You can raid your kitchen<\/strong> and find numerous music-making objects<\/strong>: pots, pans, lids, bottles, wooden spoons, metal cutlery, plastic bowls, etc. Almost everything in the kitchen can make a sound, and there is lots of variety in sound<\/strong>. For others who are less fortunate, they may need to ask neighbours<\/strong> or even dig in the trash heap<\/strong> to find these items, like these kids in Uganda<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

6. Using birds & guitars<\/h3>\n

Say what? Yup, set up a few Gibson Les Pauls<\/strong><\/a>, hook them up to amps<\/strong><\/a> and pedals<\/strong><\/a>, sprinkle a bit of birdseed<\/strong> around and let several birds<\/strong> free in the room. That’s what French artist C\u00e9leste Boursier-Mougenot\u00a0<\/strong>did for his 1999 exhibition “From Here to Ear”<\/strong>, which ended up being successfully exhibited in various European cities. This type of music is called aleatoric<\/strong>\u00a0music, <\/strong>which is created through the impetus of chance<\/strong> and randomness<\/strong>, two phenomena that are omnipresent in nature<\/strong>. Very cool idea!<\/p>\n

5. While Driving a Transport Truck<\/h3>\n

For the sake of other drivers and wild animals, PLEASE, DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF<\/strong>! One man in the USA<\/strong> tried this: producing music in a DAW<\/strong><\/a> on his laptop while driving a transport truck<\/strong>. He was caught doing this when he was pulled over by the police<\/strong> for speeding (he was also caught with illegal drugs<\/strong> in the truck). Luckily no one was hurt, he surely got a fine<\/strong> or went to prison<\/strong>. This is undoubtedly more dangerous<\/strong> than using the phone or changing the radio dial while drive. Be responsible folks!<\/p>\n

This is a new genre of music altogether, barcode<\/strong> music<\/strong> (see video above<\/strong>), and a new activity has arisen from it: Barcode Jamming<\/strong> (see video below<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

That sounds really weird… We’re talking body percussion<\/strong> here, three percussionists<\/strong> and one “percusionee” (if that’s a word). This time, instead of using barcodes he used various<\/strong> frequencies<\/strong> and octaves<\/strong> of concert<\/strong> pitch A<\/strong> being amplified<\/strong> through the hi-fi stereo systems<\/strong> of 100 cars<\/strong>. This ambitious project was called “A [for 100 cars]<\/strong>” and took place in 2017 in Los Angeles, California and was a huge success…<\/p>\n

In Norway<\/strong>, musician Terje Isungset<\/strong> has made it possible, through a lifetime of dedication<\/strong>, research<\/strong> and practice<\/strong>, to make music with ice<\/strong>. He sculpts the ice into either blocks<\/strong>, chimes<\/strong>, bells<\/strong>, wind instruments <\/strong>or even stringed instruments<\/strong>.
