The cornet has a relatively <strong>lyrical<\/strong>, <strong>velvety<\/strong> and <strong>round<\/strong> <strong>sound<\/strong> and<strong> blends harmoniously into the brass section<\/strong>. The trumpet is <strong>longer<\/strong> and <strong>delivers<\/strong> <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>brighter<\/strong>, <strong>more present and clearer tone<\/strong>. For this reason alone it is preferred in the brass section as a <strong>soloist<\/strong>. And in terms of <strong>volume<\/strong>, the trumpet is also far more <strong>dominant<\/strong>. The most significant <strong>difference<\/strong> lies in the <strong>mouthpiece.<\/strong> A flugelhorn mouthpiece, with a comparatively <strong>large inner bore<\/strong>, leads to<strong> higher air consumption<\/strong> and <strong>air use<\/strong>. The special feature of these beasts is that they have <strong>three to six valves<\/strong> and a particularly<strong> wide scale length <\/strong>and\u00a0thus a much <strong>wider\u00a0bore<\/strong>. It is played via a <strong>wide<\/strong> and <strong>deep<\/strong> (<strong>cup<\/strong>&#8211; or <strong>bowl<\/strong>-shaped)<strong>\u00a0mouthpiece<\/strong>. There are many different designs, from the marching tune of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/sousaphones.html?viewMode=block\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>sousaphone<\/strong><\/a> to earth-shaking tones of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/c_tubas.html?viewMode=block\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>contrabass<\/strong> <strong>tuba<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(BB-flat or CC tuba, see <strong>video below<\/strong>), which has at least a length of <strong>580 cm<\/strong>.
