In 2010, the <strong>Australian <\/strong>one-man-project \/ band released <em><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1DNSmmRLfv97Yjq7MTFWng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Innerspeaker<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (2010, Modular), his\u00a0<strong>f<\/strong><strong>irst LP<\/strong>. Although the reviews were positive, a certain condescension was perceived. There was talk that it was too closely imitating the sounds of\u00a0<strong>The Beatles&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/3PRoXYsngSwjEQWR5PsHWR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Revolver<\/em><\/a><\/strong><em> &#8211;<\/em>as if that were a <em>bad\u00a0<\/em>thing!\u00a0Well, nine years later, nobody doubts that Kevin Parker is a <strong>genius<\/strong> and that <strong>Tame Impala<\/strong> are here to stay. In his other two releases &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/3C2MFZ2iHotUQOSBzdSvM7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Lonerism<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (2012, Modular) and <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/79dL7FLiJFOO0EoehUHQBv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Currents<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (2015, Modular) as well as in other projects, from <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/4skJp5OKvcc9eKokiuhi2s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Pond<\/strong><\/a>, to production with <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1S0vL284jxZYKtZQ2jsQ2X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Melody&#8217;s Echo Chamber<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Lady Gaga <\/strong>or<strong> Rihanna<\/strong>, Parker has sublimated a sound that mixes <strong>classical psychedelia<\/strong> (<strong>Revolver<\/strong>&#8216;s<strong> Beatles<\/strong>, yes, but also <strong>neo-psychedelia<\/strong>, and <strong>psychedelic pop<\/strong> like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1PCZpxHJz7WAMF8EEq8bfc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Byrds<\/strong><\/a>) with some elements of <strong>R&amp;B<\/strong>, <strong>hip-hop<\/strong> and <strong>urban music<\/strong>. The result is unbeatable and we&#8217;re going to analyse it here.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">How does psychedelia sound in 2019?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2222\/04\/tame-impala-floor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-362196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2222\/04\/tame-impala-floor-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2222\/04\/tame-impala-floor-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2222\/04\/tame-impala-floor-768x540.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2222\/04\/tame-impala-floor.jpg 968w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Basically, it sounds the way Kevin Parker wants it to sound. As we said before, its sound can be summed up as a <strong>throwback<\/strong> to the <strong>sonic experimentation of the 60s<\/strong> but taken to another level with <strong>contemporary technology\u00a0<\/strong>(as well as an enormous <strong>composition talent<\/strong>, of course). His modus operandi can be summed up in a phrase pronounced by himself: &#8220;<strong>Electronic is not the opposite of rock<\/strong>&#8220;. From this statement of intentions, one can better understand images like the one above, belonging to Parker&#8217;s <strong>home studio<\/strong>. So, rather than talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/rickenbacker.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rickenbackers<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/tube_guitar_heads.html?sw=amplifier&amp;viewMode=block&amp;smuuid=b9b5b70d-b4fb-43ef-8cd8-ae91d6da3f8b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>amplifiers<\/strong><\/a> (at the end we will make a brief tour), it is more interesting to talk about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/synthesizers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>synthesizers<\/strong><\/a>. It is available in a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/roland_juno_ds_61.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">61-key version<\/a><\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/roland_juno_ds_76.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>76-key version<\/strong><\/a> and a full-sized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/roland_juno_ds_88.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>88-key version<\/strong><\/a> (shown above). The <strong>effects section<\/strong> is one of its greatest assets, both in terms of variety and quality. We find, among others, many variations for <strong>delays<\/strong>\u00a0(standard and BBD), <strong>choirs<\/strong> and a <strong>phase shift<\/strong> lever. In addition, it offers a great combination of digital and analog effects: special attention to independent, <strong>fully analog stereo distortion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And before we move on to analog synthesizers, we need to talk about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/gb\/korg_kronos_61.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Korg Kronos 61<\/strong><\/a>, a <strong>workstation keyboard<\/strong> that Parker sadly lost in the <strong>Malibu wildfire<\/strong>. Looking at its features, it&#8217;s not uncommon to imagine that the Australian will soon have another Kronos 61, because this keyboard is overwhelming.
