The charm of this fun instrument from the sunny South Seas is undisputed and now pretty much everyone knows it. 1. Origins of the Ukulele: Not a\u00a0Hawaiian invention<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The birth of the ukulele dates back to 1879<\/strong> with the landing of Portuguese sailors<\/strong> on Hawaii<\/strong>, where it got its name. Its predecessor, the “machete de braga<\/strong>” also called the “cavaquinho<\/strong>“, existed long before and was brought from Madeira<\/strong> to Hawaii. Well then, Aloha!\u00a0?<\/p>\n

2. The ukulele overtook the guitar several times (almost)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the 1920s, the traditional manufacturer C. F. Martin Guitars<\/strong><\/a>, among others, sold as many ukuleles as guitars. The global economic crisis cast its shadow ahead and the affordable<\/strong> ukulele enabled many manufacturers (including Gretsch<\/strong><\/a> and Gibson<\/strong><\/a>) to survive the difficult years. After the Second World War, Maccaferri<\/strong> was able to keep a constant daily production of 2500 instruments<\/strong>\u00a0with a plastic<\/strong> ukulele series (!) at the beginning of the 1950s.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
