Musical Highlights 2022

Musical Highlights 2022

We have left the old year behind us and the new one has already written a number of musical highlights on its calendar. We can expect albums from legends, impressive birthdays, anniversaries, documentaries and films about international stars. We are all aware that planned concerts and festivals may or may not happen… Let’s stay optimistic and hope for the best! 🤘

Rolling Stones anniversary – a fabulous 60 years of R’n’R

In 2022 rock ‘n’ rollers the Rolling Stones can look back on 60 years of musical history together, an amount of time that most other bands don’t ever experience. Somehow Keith Richards, Mick Jagger & Co. still manage to pull themselves together. Keith Richards says: “There are currently more important things than a Rolling Stones celebration.” Few of the anniversary gigs are planned in the USA and Canada. Unfortunately, drummer Charlie Watts can no longer lead the rhythm section, only in their hearts. RIP!

Britney Spears – Liberated Music?

After being under her father’s tutelage for 13 years, Britney is enjoying her new freedom. The pop princess emphasizes that she is “scared of [the] people and the business” of the music industry. But the fans have been waiting longingly for a new album since 2016. And so it remains to be seen how Britney will deal with the terrible things that were done to her, musically.

ABBA – innovative concerts with virtual avatars

The four band members are all in their 70s. And after the Swedish megastars did not want to do it again to appear on the stage in person, they implemented an extraordinary idea that also sparked discussions. On their comeback, they appear as virtual avatars depicting the group as it was in 1977. A really innovative spectacle. The “innovative Voyage Concerts” are scheduled to start in London on May 27th. Who else were the countries that gave the band Zero Points at the ESC 1974 for “Waterloo”? 😉

Adele – sedentary concerts in Las Vegas

Once upon a time, Las Vegas was the place where fading stars revived the last glow of their careers. That has long since changed. For some icons, the concerts in the Colosseum of the Caesars Palace Casino have become a crowning statement. So also for the wonderful Adele, who will perform here every Friday and Saturday between the end of January and mid-April in front of around 4,000 fans. The tickets, as well as Adele’s Hyde Park concerts planned for next July, are already sold out.

Scorpions – the hurricane moves on

The Scorpions have long since reached a proud age, Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker have already passed the 70 mark. No reason for the cult band to withdraw from the rock circus. On the contrary. On February 25th, the new album “Rock Believer” will be released; then – if the pandemic allows it – some Las Vegas shows and even a world tour will follow. We keep our fingers crossed that the Scorpions can rock again like a hurricane for their audience.

Soft Cell – luck not included

In 1981 Soft Cell landed an absolute world hit with “Tainted Love” that would turn the Brits into synth-pop legends. After all, the song climbed to number 1 in the charts in 17 countries. After several ups and downs, Marc Almond and David Ball split up in 2004. Then there was silence. After a long break, the two recently returned to the stage. The comeback album “Happiness Not Included” is due to hit the market on February 25th: It is the first soft-cell album in 20 years.

Tears For Fears – Synth-Pop ambitiously innovative

On the same day, February 25th, 2022, you can look forward to another release. Tears For Fears, absolute global stars of the ’80s with hits like “Shout” and “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, are back. After the heroes of synth-pop have not released any new material since 2004, they will serve their fans fresh songs as a duo. It has been predicted that synth-pop will climb an absolutely ambitious step on the musical ladder in 2022.

Bryan Adams – painfully happy

Canadian pop rocker Bryan Adams is also reported to be in an extremely good mood. So good it could hurt. His new album bears the telling title “So Happy It Hurts”. It should be in stores from March of this year. The previously published extracts suggest that “Mr. Summer of ’69” will by no means concentrate on cuddly rock or ballads. Rather, a harder sound is to be expected. We are excited.

Rosalia – already chosen as a masterpiece before the release

In 2018 Rosalia made her breakthrough with her album “El Mal Querer”. And so the flamenco hip-hop star was also awarded a Grammy. She wants to present her third studio album in 2022. “Motomani” has not even been published yet and is already being described – according to Rolling Stone magazine – as a masterpiece full of dissonances, synthesizers and lush organs, “which dismantles the structure of Spanish-language music.

Placebo comeback: new album and tour

In the 90s they rose to become stars of the alternative scene. The voice of Brian Molko was the unmistakable trademark. After that it was pretty quiet for a long time. The last song, “Jesus Son”, dates back to 2016. Now they are back with their gentle, melancholy mood and their pulsating rhythms. At the beginning of the year they present their new studio album. A live tour is planned for the fall. Let’s hope together that it can take place.
