Hello New Gear – October 2022

Autumn has arrived – and with it still many innovations that lead musicians to find new instruments for unbridled fun. This time around we have nimble buttons, a powerful synth, a compact router, an ingenious sequencer, versatile sound cards, reference monitor speakers, a professional video camera and great amplifiers just for you – let’s get started!

Kawai ES-120

Available in black and white, this stage piano from Kawai offers everything you need as a keyboard player on stage: 88 keys with Responsive Hammer Compact mechanism, 25 first-class sounds, 192-voice polyphony with sustain pedal, 100 drum rhythms, 4 internal memories, split and dual function, reverb effects and an internal recorder for up to 3 songs. With the built-in speakers with 2 x 10 watts, you can continue playing at home or behind the scenes. The special feature: especially for the lower volumes, Kawai has given the ES-120 a low volume balance, so that it still sounds perfectly balanced. Pedal, music stand and power supply are included.

Novation Launchkey 88

Those who control many sounds via the computer know this: you need many keys, but not necessarily that heavy and with a hammer mechanism, preferably a few pads, controls and wheels. And so Novation did it and presents the Launchkey 88! This USB MIDI keyboard controller’s 88 semi-weighted keys with adjustable dynamic curves are accompanied by 16 RGB-illuminated velocity-sensitive pads, 8 knobs, 9 45mm faders, modulation and pitch wheels. Tiptop Audio Model 245t

With the 245t model, Tiptop Audio continues the journey in the Eurorack 200 series developed together with Buchla. The 30 HP wide CV sequencer with 4 rows and 5 sequence steps. A signal with a value from 0 to 10 volts can be generated for each step. And since the 5 steps are quite unusual and not always very practical, the rows can be shortened or linked. Each line has a CV output and stage gate outputs for activating envelopes or other parameters. Stages can be skipped directly via the Stage Select inputs, thus interrupting sequences. A real Buchla heart that can drive your Eurorack too!

Swissonic Basic Router MKII

Reliable, secure for transmission, robust and, among other things, fast in terms of transmission speed – these are the attributes we expect from a router. All this applies to the Swissonic Basic Router MKII. Whether used at home, in the studio or on stage, this 2.4 and 5 GHz router offers and guarantees uncompromising reliability. It includes WiFi standards: IEEE 802.11a, b, ac, g, n and offers WiFi data throughput of up to 300Mbps (2.4GHz) or up to 867Mbps (5GHz). There is a 100 Mbps WAN port and four 100 Mbps LAN ports for connecting wired devices. The power supply and a network cable (90 cm) are included.

Yamaha MODX6+

Yamaha is updating its MODX series! The compact MODX6 synthesizer offers the same great sound quality as its predecessor, but with doubled polyphony up to 128 voices. The flash memory for its own sound waves, which has grown to 1.75 GB, is also noticeably larger. And those who work a lot with modulation knobs will be happy that they are now much more non-slip and therefore more precise to use thanks to the rubber coating. Motion control synthesis, AWM2 synthesis, FM-X synthesis and 2,227 preset performances with up to 16 parts per performance per split and layer remained. And the Super Knob, which controls up to 128 parameters simultaneously, is again perfectly accessible as a central control element next to the 7-inch color VGA touchscreen.
