Underrated and undersold!

Rob976, 08.02.2016
The Zaor Miza 88 XL oak/grey workstation is completely understated, the photos do not do the workstation justice by a long way.

Having ordered the workstation, it was shipped via a pallet through Thomann's heavy freight service, I placed the order and in less than a week it had arrived. All I can say is that I was unprepared for the level of professionalism and quality, even down to the packaging..

The desk is comprised of two boxes, a 1/4" thick cardboard that was double lined, the boxes weighed quite a lot on their own, I had never seen packaging quite like it and that is testament to Zaor for protecting their products and going the extra mile, if only other furntiure companies would look to Zaor's gold standards.

Upon opening the boxes, each component of the desk was carefully wrapped in a thin polystyrene material, protecting the lovely finish from any accidents during transit and assembly. There were polystyrene blocks in the corners of the boxes to further protect the desk components, the polystyrene sheet material that covered the desk components, I used to protect my laminate flooring whilst assembly took place, after that I donated the material to a charity store to help with their packing of items. Each box weights 70kgs and 40gks respectively, that gives an indication of how heavy this assembled workstation will be.

The instructions are literally one sheet, no mess, it's straightforward and very easy to follow, also included are the screws and fixings plus the rack bolts and fixings so you can start installing your equipment as soon as assembly has finished. The quality of the desk components is superb, heavy grade chipboard finished with lovely veneer, the attention to detail is stunning and the quality of workmanship is nothing short of breathtaking. I am not exaggerating here, it was a pleasure to put the workstation together, assembly took around an hour as it requires two people for the final part of building. Each hole was precision drilled, no effort was required as everything slotted into place, this is by far the best self-assembly furniture I have ever seen, the screw in bolts are supported by metal threads inserted into the shelves and sides themselves, making for longevity in case you need to strip the workstation down for moving house etc.

All the rack fixings, draw runners and feet are already installed, saving a lot of time in the process. Each piece is numbered one through six, you cannot go wrong during assembly, it's a case of placing one side panel onto the floor, adding in the shelves and then I opted to install the second side before two people lifted it onto the base. The desk weights quite a lot, it's sturdy, offers plenty of space on the top shelf for two studio monitors and either two single or one ultra wide display.

The workstation comprises of another shelf, you can find three banks of 4U racking, even the longest of my racks doesn't touch the bottom, they can all be securely fixed with the including racking bolts. The angle is perfect to view and operate, leaving your shelf free of clutter, I have a Mac Pro cylinder sitting on my shelf at the moment, enough space to see the display clearly without obstruction, this workstation has been well thought out in the design stages.

The lower sliding shelf houses an 88 key master/midi keyboard. I have an Axiom 49 keyboard however there is room for expansion and the sliders work nicely, the sliding keyboard shelf rests on the floor with casters, taking the weight off the runners and the rest of the desk. The cables are handled through carefully positioned holes drilled to accommodate different sizes of cable, a trough at the rear of the desk allows for your cables to remain tidy and out of site, this is a professional and elegant solution if you are 'annoyed' by a sea of untidy cables like myself.

The look of the workstation is superb, it looks and is professional level, for the price, it is stunning, you might hesitate at £630 (at the time of ordering) however believe me, it's well worth it, lifting your music production to another level entirely, it says something about your professionalism and dedication to your craft, the workstation is that good, Zaor should be very very proud for creating such a great workstation, it's the workstation I've always been looking for.

Even now while I type this review on the workstation, I am still marvelling at the visual appearance and the real estate in terms of space for your equipment. I still have plenty of room for expansion, I express just how much I love this workstation, it will change your work ethic and increase your production or at least it has for me. Everything is to hand, for standing and playing which I have to do because of a mobility problem, the height is perfect yet sitting is at ease, sliding out the keyboard when I need to add some synths/samples etc.

Final words.. buy one and tell your friends, Zaor need supporting for developing such a great workstation, it's far above the competition at this price point, well done Zaor, your workmanship is outstanding, no I don't work for the company but I believe in quality products that inspire creation and innovation.

A special thank you to Martin, Claudia and Per for organising the help with this workstation, it's customer service that you can't buy, second to none from Thomann as always!

Excellent desk, has everything you need

Antonios M., 14.06.2013
I received the desk in a huge thick "box" that is very heavy to carry.
Although the box was heavy duty and the items were well packed, some panels still had some dents/chips.
It is not difficult to put together, although 2-3 people are needed.
The quality of the wood & construction is excellent although quite pricey.

I bought this model because I had to fit a very large keyboard (prokeys 88) which fits nicely and I couldn't find any other desk with a very large drawer. However, the combination of keyboard and drawer is quite heavy and tricky to move on a carpeted floor.

It has 3x4U sections. The only problem is that if you have long units the angle of the table at that point is not ideal, so you may not be able to screw them or use all 4Us. (my bottom units are not screwed, just resting on the desk)

The top section is wide and deep and can easily fit 1-2 pairs of speakers and 1 large/2 standard screens.

Lastly, there is a self for the cables at the back which is very handy if you like to keep things tidy.
