Convincing partner

The Seeker, 03.03.2013
The trade press praises the THR series already since the appearance of the THR5 and THR10 on the green clover. I was always a bit skeptical about the size of the amp, and the amp simulations offered were not quite my case. However, the sound of the new THR10C fits exactly into my prey scheme and as I was looking for a portable, also battery-operated and quietly sounding training partner: said done, ordered.

Optics and workmanship are impeccable. The THR series was apparently designed deliberately so that no discussion with the girlfriend comes up when you park it prominently in the living room. All regulators and switches work perfectly, and the jacks are neatly bolted to the metal chassis. The operation is intuitive, who has worked with other modeling amps should be fine.

How does a practice camp sound, which is about the size of a three-pound bread box? In a word: overwhelming! There are 5 electric guitar amps working on Fender Deluxe Reverb, Matchless DC-30, Fender Blues Jr., Marshall Bluesbraker and Dr. Ing. Orient Z Mini 8. They all sound characteristic and behave very similar to the role models. Yamaha's VCM technology, unlike other models, does not track the frequency response, but the circuitry and electrical components of the amps, and it works impressively well. The sound comes powerful and believable over, the amps respond to stop and volume control of the guitar as usual from the tube. If you turn up the master volume knob for the simulated amp, punch, compression, and pressure are just like the tube model - something that I've often missed on trips to the world of modeling amplifiers. Here it is possible at volume level to drive the "final stage" credibly into saturation. Thanks to the VCM technology, the tone controls of the amps react like those of the prototypes, ie from almost non-functioning as in the Bluesbraker to significant dependence on each other (eg DC-30).

The effects are excellent, some of them even sound better than my POD HD500. Especially spring reverb and tape echo have done to me, hats off to these simulations. However, I wished that you could just dose the Hall a little finer, he is also at the smallest setting already strong. Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, tremolo, all of high quality. Once you have found your sound, you can hold it fast by holding down one of the 5 memory buttons, simple and good.

What comes out of the small box is indeed amazing. I do not know how Extended Stereo Technology works, but the sound is so broad, crazy. I still find it puzzling where the basses come from in the small membranes. The fact is: They are there and at very socially acceptable volumes.

What strikes me as particularly positive: Strat, Tele, Paula, Casino, they all sound like they should sound like this box. Especially with cheap models, I have the experience that they often swallow the special nuances of the guitars. This is definitely not the case here!

I have attached a test acoustic guitar and I liked the result especially with the chorus very well. POD HD500 and iPad sound just as good with the flat-response setting. A short recording via USB and Garageband was trouble-free, the sound quality is clean and you get the dry signal in addition to the amp sound, exemplary!

What is there to criticize? The aforementioned somewhat fierce reverb, moreover, I would have liked that the room reverb is not only accessible through the Mac / PC software. A Leslie or Univerb simulation would also fit well with the "boutique" teams, unfortunately there is currently nothing to be done by the software. These are all minor things that do not disturb the overall positive impression compared to what is offered. Almost forgotten: The built-in tuner works perfectly.

Anyone looking for a discreet practice partner with classic sound for the apartment, can access here without hesitation. I think something better is currently not available in this category. Without much effort, convincing sounds come from the THR10C and you can focus on what really matters: practice, play, have fun!

The top performer for guitarists

Uwe632, 15.02.2013
After the trade press was full of praise I could not leave it and ordered a THR10C. I play Country Rock therefore the 10C. I call some Fender tube amps my own so that I have the original sound very well in the ear. The THR10C must not shy away from the comparison (apart from the volume, of course). The device is very solid and the sounds are just fun.
The absolute top driver is it but if you load the software from the network and then access also receives the parameters on the one via the buttons has no access: super sound in very good quality.

Conclusion: BUY !!!
