Deluxe Memory Man clone at a very fair price !

Julien4991, 25.10.2015
1st impressions after 1 week of use:

Look :
Probably the weakness of this pedal. It looks solid but...
Color is quite ugly (to me), font used for the logo is really basic and chicken head knobs are small and look cheap.
Switch are not soft so don't expect this.

Anyway, let's remember we are in front of a 100 euros pedal made in China.
So let's concentrate on sound !

Sound:
The repeats are much clearer than most of analog delays out there.
Repeats are clearer than my DMM (calibrated by H.D.) and trebles fade very slowly.
Which means this pedals can really sit in the mix with dirt on contrary of other analog delays.
Bad point : repeats have a lot of white noise on mine (to me and compared to my DMM), no matter delay time.
My DMM has absolutely no white noise or aliasing, even at the longest delay time, but is darker/more ambient.
Memory Delay reminds me the 1st DMM XO I had some years ago which was very punchy.
(my big box DMM is far better for ambient stuff but miss the punch you would need for leads)

Modulation :
Modulation is very nice, it works really like modulation on DMM (not only chorus/vibrato, but a kind of vibe/phase effect).
And this is the modulation you cannot hear out of DMM.
I don't really see use for a switch to add or not modulation.
I would have prefer tap tempo instead.

Gain/Headroom :
It can go from unity gain to a fair boost.
It seems to have good headroom even at 12 o'clock.
I have to find the sweet spot maybe to improve ratio noise/signal.
NB : the pedal is not true bypass, so this preamp is always on like an old DMM Big Box.
No loss of volume when engaged.

Oscillation :
Mine is not easy to make it self oscillate. So it cannot do the dirty oscillation I love on my DMM.
But this means you can really increase number of repeats before it oscillates.
Degradation of tone per repeat is very slow, and actually better than my DMM.

Delay time :
Xvive pedal can have longer delay time than my DMM.
Probably my DMM is only around 450m and this one is real 600ms.
However at highest delay time you can hear aliasing.
Before 450-500ms there is no aliasing (like old DMM) but some more white hiss.

So what's the deal?
I would say at 100 euros this pedal is a very good deal !
It's punchy, warm as you expect from analog, nice modulation.
I'm just a bit disappointed by white noise (but my DMM XO was also noisy so it's probably not bad compared to current DMM XO).

Probably not as good as a real old DMM..but this is really not the same price tag.
For 50 euros more, add tap tempo and reduce white noise and this is a DMMTT killer!

My Behringer VM1 (now defected) had quite same white noise on repeats but it was sounding dull and sterile to me.
It sounded more like a lofi delay pedal to me, cannot be compared to DMM.

Very good

Arnaud951, 07.07.2017
I was a little afraid of the other pedals of the brand, MOER format and not very engaging ... But there is nothing to see.

Nice box, the pedal is beautiful, correct finish and everything is well screwed. No complaints. It is even a beautiful object.

Characteristic side:
- a drive setting for the input gain, which is very useful for adjusting according to the instruments and to saturate the signal a bit. This setting is always active even when the pedal is deactivated. Since this setting is transparent it does not bother me, to see for the purists.

- blend setting, very effective. Allows a perfect stereo when it is at 12 o'clock. Intuitive in mono as in stereo.

- Delay and feedback settings, instinctive. Note that the expression pedal input allows you to manage the delay time, short or long. I would prefer a feedback adjustment, but good ... Besides that it does not oscillate right away, you really have to be on the end of races to achieve self-oscillation. It is rather cool because the rehearsals are very organic and with a short delay time and a lot of feedback one gets almost a liquid and expressive reverb.

- the modulation settings are also instinctive, and the character of the modulation changes drastically according to its depth. In stereo it is very nice. The booklet suggests some adjustments on this side, not silly.

The pedal is very reactive and expressive, it's more than a "Memory Man" delay for me. I see this effect as a modulation station in time, or an animated filter that allows lo-fi moods.

I like to use it on synths or machines, have it under your fingers to tweak with the parameters. But its use "simple" with a guitar or bass and just as enjoyable. For the price it is really a very good tool. I even hesitate to take a second ...
