Inexpensive, Loud, Lightweight, audio interface function

Biscotto, 14.02.2018
As a new guitarist, this is the first amp I ever bought. I mainly wanted an adequately loud amp with a variety of tones to practice with. I have it for almost two years now.

It has a decent amount of amp models to practice with. If you don't find them enough, the USB output which also doubles as an audio interface, can output just the guitar signal. It lets you record pure signal which you can later process on your DAW using amp/cab simulator plugins. Some latency is obviously there, though. You can use this function with PC, Ipad or Iphone.

I think it's made with classic rock tones in mind, and in that regard it delivers greatly. However because I play mostly metal, I found the 3 metal amp models weren't enough, neither the effects it offers. I also found that the high gain models lack in dynamic and detail and they exaggerate the bass. But I guess you can't expect more from a practice amp this cheap. The power and quality of the speaker are the deciding factor here. For more flexibility in tones, I use an effects processor which I plug to this amp.

One minor issue I found is that if you use an effects processor (say, amp/cab or effects modeller) and connect it to the guitar input, it will have to go through one of the amp models of the VX II to output from its speaker. However you can solve this by connecting your effects processor unit to its aux input so you just have the dry signal from your effects processor coming out of the speaker.

I wanted a cheap practice amp with adequate volume and USB functions, especially doubling as an audio interface. That's what it is, weighing less than 4kg.

Great range of sounds

damo, 08.01.2018
4 stars only for slightly unconvincing build quality.
5 stars for ease of use, features and sounds

Pros
Lightweight
Compact
great sounds from an 8inch speaker in a very compact lightweight body
Ease of use, owned a Fender mustang before and this is much easier to use

Cons
Slightly unconvincing build quality, because of the amount of plastic. I think it will be fine for an at-home guitarist like me, but I wouldn't bring it out and about, I fear it would not survive a knock from even my little Fender Frontman 10G.

The input jack feels very cheap and plasticky and like it will be the first part to wear out.

In summary, great versatility and sound, let down very slightly by build quality. Even the speaker grille is plastic,
