Impressive instrument

hornling, 03.08.2016
Conclusion in advance: For the price you do nothing wrong. In every sense "input" and "output" are correct. In terms of the price, it is difficult to deduct for processing.

Due to the same construction with professional horns and relevant forums, I became aware of the instrument some time ago. Well half a dozen Thomann-301 I have now / with friends. Impressive that you can get a very good horn for so slim money.

As an ambitious amateur I play alongside a manufactory instrument - reference for this comparison - also a 301 and am very satisfied with it. It is used as a second instrument for me if there is too much hubbub on the stage or during marching, but I still put emphasis on sound and playful quality.

Intonation: In all the instruments played, the intonation was more than good, and in comparison with some, my reference was the same. When changing, I do not find any differences. Just like with some manufacturers, however, there is a noticeable serial dispersion compared to instruments such as Yamaha. This is always always acceptable in the frame. After the tuning of the instrument, the valve pulls were pulled out as I would have expected. Very convenient is the ability to adjust the B side and F side of the instrument separately from the main tuning range.

Approach and feeling of play: Due to the design, it has a clear, pleasant resistance when playing. In general, good support and air guidance is important in this design in order to be able to lean against the resistance of the instrument. It forces much well-guided air, which is good for the sound. Experienced players or changers of the (single-) F-horn will be located in my opinion. (In other words, whoever comes from a zero-resistance instrument, or plays as a beginner with little air and no support, will need time to master sound and intonation on the instrument - or choose another instrument) Resistance, the sounds can also be sounded from the piano. In the Fortissiomo, the sound remains strong enough for a long time without the "bratzt".

Sound: It sounds! A lot. In comparison, the same "input" to the "output" is that it sounds very good and is often even better or equal compared to other instruments in the low to medium price range of industrial production. The great role models sound even more brilliant.

Production quality: The attentive viewer will notice a variation in the series (as I've seen it with a well-known American manufacturer, only there for real money). The paint is OK, let's see how long it lasts. With all the instruments played, the machine ran perfectly, which is the main thing. The funnel can be unscrewed. It is striking that the interior is made of brightly polished brass and sometimes has quite a lot of play. They are not made of nickel silver, which is why frequent care and a good slide gel / oil (eg article 264592) will be necessary. Generally, more frequent rinsing, refatting and oiling will help prevent mechanical surprises for a long time. But keep in mind the price and do not hesitate to complain!

Special features: In addition to the finger hook, a flipper for the back of the hand is soldered on the mouth pipe. The guide can also be used for a march fork (eg item number 100282, bend 90 degrees bend). A brass support prevents a hand guard from being installed without cutting. One has "neat things in the hand anyway", which is why I would do without. The valve block can be drained well by pulling the 3rd valve drawer. The number on the edge of the beaker can be used as a marking to screw on the sound cup. In the case at the front mouthpiece, sometimes a mouthpiece may hang on the inner lid and may fall out: Use the rear mouthpiece receptacle.

Expectations

kaba, 23.06.2012
For the hmta-hmta-mhtatatata-stuff I already have an althorn from Chinese production. The required 3-4 hours of running time until the valves run correctly. Everything is right from the start. Very good.

The sound is mE better than my Hoyer B-horn, the resistance, however, significantly higher, which could be expected with an Alex 103 replica. But this is not a disadvantage: a fff-f2 does not land here so fast in the Tonnirvana. As a first attempt I played the solo parts from Bruckner's romantic. This was immediately more secure than on the horn, that I have been accustomed for over 10 years.

Processing errors I have found so far. The quality of the lacquer and the soldering can only be found out later.

What I do not really like (actually small things and only a star trigger): Why pink stoppers at the B / F-Umschaltventil (the others are black)? And why the current Thomann logo as a manufacturing engraver? Sorry, but the one pictured on the product page is much nicer. Hornets are stock-conservative. We do not use links for 200 years. Grade when copying a horn icon is a bad break.

To the suitcase: That would be optimal, even if my simple K & M-Notenständer would fit. A tiny piece of fabric on the back would already suffice.

Addendum: With a little planning, the music stand is pure. Knapp however goes. A Millenium GS-2005 E also fits as a horn stand to a 4-ring music folder with 4cm back. Everything I need.
