Very good for the price!
TrEr, 22.03.2019
I purchased these headphones because I needed an extra pair for recording/monitoring in my studio. No matter how much I try to avoid it musicians always manage to destroy headphones sooner or later so I wanted something cheap. I've tried several other cheap Superlux headphones in the past but although most of them have sounded surprisingly good there has always been one big problem: The cable has always been so fragile that they ALWAYS break where the cable enters the headphone. I don't think any Superlux headphones have lasted more than a couple of months in my studio.

I've also generally been happier with the OPEN back Superlux headphones but I obviously can't use open back for recording. The closed back I've tried in the past have felt TOO closed, like your ears are suffocated when you put them on.

Some of the other Superlux models have also been very uncomfortable to wear, especially the ones with a K701-style headband.

So I decided to try this model because from the photos it looked to have a sturdier cable and the DT-770 style looked more comfortable than other cheap closed backs I've tried.

First of all, the photos didn't lie. The cable is certainly a lot sturdier than any Superlux I've tried before. It remains to be seen how long it will last but it doesn't look any worse than a lot of MUCH more expensive headphones.

They are also the most comfortable closed back Superlux model I've tried. The only problem is that they feel very clammy after a while. I suppose that can be fixed with new pads but I'm not sure I will bother. Except for this they feel great and they don't have that "boxed in" feeling of some other Superlux closed backs.

The sound is surprisingly good for the price. The best closed back Superlux model I've tried by far. Definitely not something I would use for mixing but more than adequate for recording. I could probably enjoy them for casual listening too, especially when travelling somewhere I don't want to bring expensive headphones.

From the looks and model name I assume these headphones are supposed to be clones of the Beyerdynamic DT-770. I made a quick comparison and the Beyerdynamics are obviously a LOT better in every was: sound, build quality, construction, EVERYTHING. But they are also far too expensive to let musicians ruin them.

For my purposes I'm very happy with these headphones. They are probably the best closed back headphones I've tried anywhere near this price range. It remains to be seen how long they will last with regular use in the studio (only a couple of weeks so far) but they certainly feel a lot sturdier than other Superlux models I've tried.

The only headphones you will ever need
Rupert Granger, 27.09.2017
Superlux have once again produced a benchmark product which would be astonishingly good at any price. First of all, the HD-660, is light in weight and extremely comfortable, even for long periods of use. Furthermore, the build quality is rugged and would withstand the rigours of professional use. The sound quality is extraordinary by any standards, with a flat and wide frequency response which provides real accuracy and finesse. In addition, the transient response is excellent, aided no doubt by the 40mm drivers (Superlux often use 50mm drivers) and the 150 ohm impedance. Interestingly, notwithstanding the high impedance, they were easily driven by my Tascam and Olympus portable recorders, and no doubt would be by more sophisticated field recorders, making them suitable for both location and studio work (for location work, the supplied hard carrying case would come in very handy). Listening to high quality recordings with which I am familiar, the sound quality of these headphones constantly surprised me, with their ability to render fine detail while accurately reproducing the timbre of real instruments. The HD-660 are simply superb. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
