These are brilliant earphones, but it took a long time for me to get them setup to my liking. By that I mean I went through each of the different earpieces four or five times before I settled on the most suitable set. If you insert them too far or not far enough, you won't get any bass at all. The sweet spot (for my ears) is very small, I was initially pushing them too far in.
In terms of sound quality, they're great. I'd say they're perfectly balanced for monitoring purposes. Some people say that the bass is lacking, but that's probably because they're used to general purpose earphones which will over-emphasise the bass. These are much flatter sounding and allow you to appreciate the music without any part of the spectrum being overwhelming.
Quality wise, the first pair I received were dead-on-arrival. One earphone had a dodgy connection where the coax cable joins the earphone. The removable cable is a double-edged sword; good because you can replace it, but it seems to have a weak point at the join and replacements can be pricey!
I bought them originally only for IEM - but in the meantime I use those earphones for almost everything and bought a second pair just for travelling (perfect in airplanes: no jet noise, no crying kids, no noise at all). For stage purpose I wanted to have a bit more "comfort" so I visited my hearing aid acoustician and showed him these earphones; he just said: no problem - he created an imprint of my ears and sent it together with the earphones to a company called hörluchs (Germany). One week later I had perfect fitting IEM - I ordered them with 23 dB environment noise surpression and was amazed how great that works on stage - the drummer behind me is no more responsible for acute hearing loss anymore....
