Quiet and bright!

Matthias529, 21.08.2012
A year ago I already had such an effect added and now followed the second. Here is my personal assessment and test for this LED effect.

Particularly noteworthy is the operating cycle of the cyclone. It is almost 0dB. One hears nothing, purely not at all when the Cyclone works. I once synonymous the music out and put my ear directly on the case - NOTHING to hear! The second positive aspect: Sound-To-Light is also adjustable via DMX control. A really great and important feature. Plus point three: The purchase price. This is considerably favorable. Next, the luminosity fades. This is quite good. The colors are very beautifully rendered. In the mist, sharp rays are produced. For me, the Cyclon depends on four 56er LED PARs and does not really go down. On the back is a very bright, blue-lit, LED-display which fortunately after 30sek. (Setting item)
The Neither can all functions be called up here. The step motor runs almost smoothly! Only once I could determine a luck jerk, which in turn had brought the entire device, light to wiggle. The last good property of the cyclone and at the same time the transition to negative, is the processing. It is very high quality. Everything is extremely clean processed and in the place, where it should be. The housing made of robust metal with plastic bumper. Only the retaining strap makes a shaky impression due to its low material thickness. Is noticed when mounting on the ceiling.

The disadvantages .... They are quite similar to the competition. I really wonder seriously about the WHY and WISO? For me the biggest shortcoming: There is NO electronic DIMMER. The device can not be dimmed like the competition. Dimming in the sense of: slowly fade in and out. An important feature in the light design of a show! On or off, not more! Second minus point: Only four DMX channels? From? From? From? What considerably limits the creativity and the possibilities of the cyclone. Point three results here. No DMX channel for R / G / B and W. You can not create your own color combinations because there are only 15 predefined color MACROs and they can not overlap softly. The color swirl has a fixed sequence and abruptly. The beam angle of 65 degrees is also somewhat lean. 90 or even 120 would have been more beautiful here. That is why I have now also added a second cyclone.

And finally, the only difference (unfortunately negative) to the competition: In the sound-to-light mode, the step motor moves extremely slowly with a quiet backdrop. (Slow motion) The rays glide slowly through the room. Manually it is not possible to reduce the step motor by DMX controller to this minimum of movement speed. You can control the direction and the speed by DMX, but the slowest level is still felt three times as fast. From video tests from the competition is to be seen, which can be better. Who now thinks, we trixen the technology, which is wrong .... The sensitivity of the STL micros once to the smallest stage, the Cyclone reacts to no bass beat more. So he is driving slowly. This nice slow movement, but is then automatically interrupted again after 4-6Sek by a fast rotary movement. Why do not you let this movement run - damn?

The channels:

Channel 1: includes the 15 preset color macros (R, G, B, W, RG, RB, RW, GB, etc.). From value 160 the cyclone goes into an automatic mode and from value 230 in SoundToLight

Channel 2: Strobe from slow to fast

Channel 3: VÖLLIG SINNLOS, here would have a nice dimmer. This includes the speed of the color when the cyclone is in the Auto mode. Absolute nonsense, because a color is held only 3-4 seconds before it changes (why not 30 or 60 sec?). As the DMX value increases, the change is made faster to 0.1 sec.

Channel 4: rotation left-right speed fast-slow

Rating (school notes)

Operating noise = 1+ (TOP)
Light output = 1
Features / equipment = 3
Processing = 1-
Handling = 1-
Price / performance = 1

Conclusion:

In conclusion, to say, for me was the price, the good processing, STL per DMX and the not to be heard operating noise. I just hope a technician from Showtec oa. Left this rating and sat down again to the workbench. Simply build again with 8 DMX channels. One for red, green, blue, white, one dimmer, strobe, rotation (nice slow), sound to light, automatic. As well as a modern solution for master slave under DMX.

Have fun with your decision.
