No words...!
M@rk , 16.11.2017
I'm currently using this unit on a large arena tour on a recommendation of a fellow FOH engineer. The PA sounds "small" without it. Even in circuit with no gain reduction, it sounds like a different PA. Extra depth and a sense of being closer. Dialling in the gain reduction adds pure glue. As soon as you've hit the magic spot, you know! The sound of depth, width and imaging are massively increased.
Only wish I'd tried this unit years ago. It would have solved a whole load of issues.
Built like a tank. Pure quality. It tends to get a bit warm so needs 1U above free. I imagine those hand-wound, chunky transformers provide the heat.
Thanks, Mr Neve. You've taken my mixes into another dimension.

Very nicely done!

Have the Rupert Neve Portico II Master Buss a whole day tested and can
Beforehand, the master bus remains in the recording studio.

To be used. I have several music, CD's and mixed tracks on ProTools
In the sum via the master bus. Intercept: Tannoy 10 and Genelec 8030
On an SSL. The result for my ears was a bit more direct each time
More nuanced.
The compressor works very fine in the master and the Silk / Silk + circuit gives
A really the ability to work out frequencies cleanly. Especially since the Silk functions can be mixed infinitely. The compressor as such also still
Infinitely to the original (parallel compression), so there comes joy. For single signals (snare bd etc.) I would not take the master bus personally,
He also makes a good figure, but think the concept is behind, so Master.

Let's get to the right part of the device. The Stereo Field Editor. Really impressive, once switched on you want to let everything run over it. In principle, the center and side signals can be influenced here. There are both Depht and Width. In addition
(LO-LM-HM-H) and via the switch (as I have understood) SFE to COMP, the two compressors are not stereo, but channel A is stereo and channel B is stereo.

When the Stereo Field Editor is switched on, without tapes, and Depht and Width is set to zero, the mix is ??already bad. Bassdrum too bulky: Mittensignal Depth-EQ LF and a little deceleration. A little overprinted Hall: Side signal Width somewhat off.
Thanks to the switchable bands, the depth and the side can be influenced.
Absolutely compelling.

Final review: even excellent mixed albums (Bonnie Raitt - slipstream and Bob Dylan - tempest) have made me very pleasantly surprised with the Rupert Neve Portico II Masterbuss. The possibilities are quite versatile and recommendable.
The processing is valuable, the optics pleases, all potentiators and switches feel good.
Level indicator and switch are easy to read.
If one is familiar with control amplifiers, one gets very fast results.

If I had personally wanted for the SFE alone a separate gain. With plus values ??Depht / Widht I come with the level to the A / B comparison not further down.
Gain without COMP is zero and by plus changes Depht / Widht one has of course
1-2 db more level.
Is ultimately no problem and probably the SFE would be influenced by an additional circuit.

The price is okay and justified me.
