Unfortunately no real innovation

Markus9300, 06.07.2015
The module is not bad to say the first, but it falls in comparison to the big brother and even to my old TD 12 clearly. No single outputs, trigg inputs only via sub-D multicore with far too short cables. (At least for my Jobeky set with large kettles) The cables can be extended because of the Multicore Sub D plug also badly. Module can not be installed due to the SuB-D 25 pole on the bottom side. Only rackmount possible!
Many of the sounds are too artificial and japanoid as one knows it from Roland and the multi-cited Machinegun Effect is also clearly audible in the Toms. I understand in the year 2015 really no longer.
I have cranked myself with some time but quite useful acoustic drum sounds and then it was really fun with the thing to practice.
The editing possibilities are however very limited. This is great for the beginner but the advanced player misses many parameters to make good sounds.

What was the reason for the change is that you can not adjust the sounds for Rim and Head separately! I understand even less because it can be only ne softwaresache. Since the trigger inputs are very limited, this feature would have been an absolute "must have". Maybe there is an update. So I could not connect my cowbell any more and no other basin.
The audio re-recording function is a nice feature for practicing but the professional would always trigger a DAW with drumlibraries and send the MidiFile or the downmix from the DAW.
The USB song function is also great for jamming or practicing! Especially LOOP A / B is helpful.

The operating concept is simple and elaborate but my TD-12 can do much more, has single outputs and much more triggers inputs and costs only half the cost.
I think it is good Roland aside from the overpriced TD 30 a cheaper entry module with the sounds of the big brother in the portfolio but I had expected something more in 2015. Maybe a few features like sep. Rimtrigger with a SW update.

A good module

05.01.2016
Module coming in replacement of my deceased TD20 to trigger an acoustic battery. The module sounds good, rather acoustic, the factory kits are not bad. It lacks an equalization section for each track as on the TD 20 but we pass quickly enough in the end. The factory presets are not bad and allows to deal with all situations, well calibrate on unless the "submachine gun" effect on the snare. The cymbals are more scintillating too.

The big highlight is the presence of a USB connector that allows to control a midi module on a computer, Addictive Drums in my case ... and have audio output of addictive in the headphones by plugging a simple USB cable Between the computer and the module. It behaves like an ASIO USB audio card! Just create a zero volume kit, and hop! Great location!

Module of good quality, it to the air robust, one will regret the connection in DB 25.
