This drum kit was meant for home recording and the potential to play live. It has a great studio produced sound quality and reaction time is flawless. I plug the kit into my scarlet 2i4 audio interface and record through reason 6 music software, this enables me to manipulate and produce the sound of the kit to my own specifications but as the kit already has such a high quality and realistic sound i've found no reason to change it other than for fun. The kit structure is made of metal bars and plastic connections, it is light and can fold away quite easily. I have not bought a speaker to plug it into yet but i have tried through my frontman 212R, this is not an ideal way to hear the well produced sound this kit offers, though a good pair of headphones is enjoyable enough. There are few limitations to sound customising and manipulation through the TD-11KV module, almost everything is changeable with an array of cymbals, snares, kick drums and toms, ambience, EQ, tone and even tuning, this is as real as it gets to an acoustic kit. The mesh heads are a great asset, they are silent and give the kit a feeling of reality and enable a realtime true sound . This kit has made my music production so much more efficient and a joy to play in a home studio.
Before getting this set, I've tried several other Yamaha, Roland and other cheaper kits. However, the sound and feel of Roland kits were the ones I went with.
The mesh pads feel, just like advertised, very real, and the more expensive cymbal pads are well worth the price compared to cheaper versions on td11k.
The sound module has its limitations - the inbuilt kits are not the best sounding, but with manual custom kit function the sound quality drastically increases. Besides that, all the functions work flawlessly.
The mount itself is made a little low (im 195 and snare could be several cms higher), while the spread to the sides could be made as wide as needed without any instabilities (much more than it's suggested in the owner's manual).
The things that I'd consider against buying the kit are: you have to press much harder to choke the cymbals than on an acoustic kit; the height of the kit (only if you're tall, though), the bass pad wobbles when playing double bass and snare pad and its branch part of the kit wobbles when hit hard. However, it only looks little strange, and does not interfere with drumming/footwork. Probably the biggest disadvantage is relatively loud bass pad. However, that may be because I mainly play heavy, double bass-centric music.
All other parts of the kit feel and look very good. It definitely feels like an expensive kit, very well worth its price.
Have had a cheapish electronic drumkit for many years - sitting in the corner mainly unused and gathering dust. I've always wanted to improve my playing, but it was difficult to be enthusiastic with something so unresponsive. So I took the plunge with Thomann - great service as always - and bought all mesh version of the TT-11KV. It fitted into the corner of the lounge beautifully and is utterly different from the old kit. The response from the mesh heads feels very natural and varied, the different tones depending on how hard you hid the pad sound amazing! Even the rubber symbols are really responsive and the hi-hat works as a hi-hat should, unlike the old kit. I'm a beginner, and this kit encourages me to practice every day because it's just a joy to use (and listen to). If only my left hand would catch up with my right I'd be in heaven, (it's getting there!).
The sound, the quality, ease of use. This unit is close to perfection. I haven't yet explored all the possibilities, but the sound and the playability are beyond my expectations. The bass drum volume is a bit low compared to the other toms, but I'm sure I'll find the setting to correct this. The play along function is very useful for practicing. The drum set measures your timing and scores your precision. Very useful.
