I was looking for a new mesh head to go with my e-drums kit that had a snare and 3 toms. I always heard that Roland was the best for e-drums but the prices always kept my away. Still, I wanted the best for my snare as it's the most used pad, compared to the other toms. I figured a Roland snare pad would be perfect, also because my kit is a Thomann MPS750 mesh kit and it's toms are very similar and size and aspect. At first I was not sure if it would fit on my existing rack but I found out that it was not something to worry about. The clamp holder is very well built and holds very tight to my rack. The holding system is the best I have seen and highly configurable in any position and it comes included in the package. Now looking to the general feeling when you hit the tom. It's fantastic, great rebound, I can really feel like playing on real drum set. Compared to my other mesh heads I can say it is a class over them and it should be, considering the Roland brand. I read that there are some people who complain about the fact that the trigger is in the middle of the pad. Indeed, if you set the pad's sensitivity to lowand velocity to high, you will get uneven sounds if you hit the pad traight in the middle or more on the outer middle surface. But I play rock/metal so I don't really care about low noises, I hit all the pads hard and like to get the hardest sound. I plugged this pad in my Alesis dm10 drum module and I use Addictive Drums 2 to trigger the sounds and it works perfectly. I woul like to buy more Roland products, but I'm waiting to learn more drumming before my next Roland investment.
...But it's as close as you can get if you don't want a noise abatement notice from the neighbors. I've got this pad plugged in to a cymbal input on my TD-15 and it works just fine. If you know Roland, you'll know how close these things are to real drums - if you don't, I can tell you that they're not far off at all. And the bundled clamp just sweetens the deal.
The Roland PDX-100 10" V-Drum Pad is designed and built to a very high standard with a sturdy feel and extremely solid construction ! As a dynamic pad there is a vast control over it's velocity curve and a great feel due to it's mesh drum head that feels like a well tuned snare drum. The rim of the drum reacts well as a second trigger and the rubber seal that covers the rim allows the surface to stay quiet which is helpful if you are playing at home with headphones on ! The pad can be used as a practise pad to work on rudiments etc and is light enough to carry around if you go away for the weekend or just want to use it as a warm up before a gig ! All in all, a great buy.
