Roland HP-605 PE

18.05.2016
Roland HP-605 is the right decision for me. The sound generation with a physical calculation model rather than with samples (as with all competitors and the other three hundred sounds of this instrument, which do not matter to me) is for me the "outstanding" key feature of the new Roland series, and the reason for that Bought this instrument. In fact - more than other instruments - it is an illusion to sit on an acoustic instrument. There are other strings that swing when the pedal is depressed, and slow (and irregular) interferences waft around when a deep key is pressed and held. The hammers are heard when striking (in adjustable volume, all strings swing a little bit When you press the pedal, it's impressively alive, a feeling I've never seen from digital pianos with their cleverly composed, perfectly sampled soundscapes of perfect instruments, which also makes a perfect acoustic instrument perfect in this kind of tone generation As with the sample-based sounds, it is possible that someone who is focussed on the sounds of the competition feels as a disadvantage - my opinion is clear: would rather play a living very good wing than a somehow preserved perfect concert wing.

The keyboard feels very touchy due to the slightly roughened surface, plays easily, quietly, precisely and smells pleasantly of wood. I have no criticism.

The part has over 300 sounds. It seemed a bit daunting to me, but I was looking for an instrument with perhaps 4-5 very good piano sounds without all the other keyboard sounds. I can now say - you have no disadvantage by these sounds, they are simply there, and they do not hurt, can be well ignored. I've tried them out, it's a bit fun, there are usable sounds. The above-described sound generation with physical modeling is only available with the four pianos, all other instruments are based on samples. The room sound is generated by 6 loudspeakers, all sitting in the upper part of the piano, the two large radiating downwards, then there is a narrow sound bar at the top, where the remaining speakers sit I do not know. A good spatial sound simulation is achieved, every sound the instrument makes
(Hammer hammer, string, sounding board) seems to have a clear spatial origin.

What I find very nice is the possibility to use different moods than the well-tempered ones. I now play mostly on "Werkmeister" to the base "C" and have with keys with few signs a cleaner major thirds. The many settings are made on a narrow button bar above the keyboard. In the center is a narrow (but sufficiently large) display. Very nice: buttons that continue in the current menu are discreetly illuminated, one experiences unobtrusively how the piano would be served. Just as well: By partially pulling out the keyboard cover you can let the bar disappear and is also visually no longer reminding you of a digital instrument sits.

Bluetooth: I just paired the piano with my phone. This means that the piano functions as a 6-speaker music system with good sound. A nice feature for me.

A few words on the differences to other pianos of the same series:
The pianos HP-603 / HP605 / LX7 / LX17 have the same sound processor, the same operation and the same keyboard. The differences are in the sound (loudspeaker) system and the housing. For more detailed information, please visit the "Taste World" 6/2015 and a blog page called "azpianonews", the latter in English.
