Excellent digital piano

24.01.2017
I use this digital piano @ home. Always been a fan of Roland products and I must say I didn't go wrong with this one.
The Classic piano sound and overall feel is fantastic and definitely on par with a real piano. I also got a pair of Roland headphones for Digital Pianos which amazed me even more while playing @ night or when I need to play private.
The embedded speakers sound really crisp and loud when needed without distortion on quality. It has many features like Piano Designer, Controlling of input like Mic with Ambience etc, WiFi connection and apps for iPad etc and many many more.

Would definitely suggest it to others.

A very good instrument.

WolfgangB., 28.07.2013
I started with a keyboard (a Yamaha E423) but then I got to know a very good piano teacher, then I switched to a piano and I was looking for an e-piano with 88 weighted keys. However, keyboard skills should also be included.
That's why I was together with my piano teacher at Thomann two weeks before. We have looked at and tested various instruments.
We also had a very good consultant with Thomann at the side, who had shown us the equipment perfectly. The focus was on the "Kawai ES-7" and the new "Roland FP-80".

The decision was hard - the Kawai had the slightly better (purer and more crystalline) piano sound, but the Roland was easier to use, had a slightly larger display and more keyboard capabilities.

What disturbs me at the Roland but something is the key noise, which is already very clearly to be heard, just when one plays very quietly. From a certain volume it is no longer perceptible, but it is not so pleasant when playing at home quietly.
We had first let it sag and then decided (after 3 days independent of each other) for the Roland.

I've ordered it in white, together with Roland's Roland chassis, a piano bench, the RPU-3 pedal, and a microphone, since the Roland FP-80 also has a dynamic micro-input, as well as a harmonizer up to 2 additional voices (Ie can generate a trio from one voice max.).
The mixing of the other voices can be controlled by the 3-way pedal RPU-3 with the middle pedal, but other features can also be placed separately on the pedals, so this 3-pedal is simply more interesting for me than the 1- Fold pedal.
Especially in the color white the piano seems to me by the way (in my opinion) much nobler and more valuable than in black (but this is certainly pure taste).

Everything was quickly built up and then went to the Probespielen. I can only say: a fantastic instrument. Although I have it only a few days, I manage with the service well after I had pulled out of the Internet the German instructions and printed. Unfortunately, only English instructions are included.

In the manual you can read that the Roland FP-80 reads and writes MIDI files in the standard MIDI file format (.SMF files). The sometimes very common .mid format is not mentioned in the guide, which initially caused some confusion. Therefore, a practical experiment had to be made:

So on a USB stick such a .mid file pulled and inserted at the Roland FP-80. And lo and behold: it reads it in and plays it off easily (tested with .mid files of Chopin, thus pure piano). Too bad that the instructions do not mention that the .mid format is playable.

With all the possibilities, it will certainly take quite some time until we have completely explored the instrument, but until now, it simply triggers enthusiasm again and again - except for the key noise ...
