Simply Awesome

Moostash, 03.08.2014
I wanted a mic to use for vocals and recording guitars but didn't want to spend a small fortune. This mic fits the bill and sounds like a mic 4 times the price I paid. My main mic is an Audio Technica AT4060 which is a great mic but tends to pick up a lot of background noise. I saw that Jared Leto uses a RODE NT1a and looked into the cost of these and was pleasantly surprised to see they are very affordable and the review of the new incarnation are very positive.
Comparing the the RODE against my AT was pleasantly surprising although it lacks some of the top end sparkle it is incredible silent with very little background noise and I am able to get comparable results with little to no background hiss.

The vocal sound I get with the RODE is very warm and sites nicely in the mix, I would love to be able to compare this against a Neumann.

This included pop filter is great, very comfortable to sing against, especially as I like to get close up to the filter and it does a great job of reducing pops.
I'm able to use this with my other mics which is an added bonus but beware that it only holds the RODE mic safely with the included nut.

Overall this is a great mic and is a bargain at twice the price.

Typical Rode, or not?

DanielH1987, 23.02.2015
As a long-time owner of an NT-1A, I was very curious how the new NT1 strikes in the studio and also live. There is on the one hand the spider, which is really good for the first time. The only catch is that it is designed so that the micro stands and does not hang. As a singer and also from the sound, I find the NT1 but better if it hangs. Then the gibbet has to be quite oblique, so that you can fix this with the small lever on the spider. A stable tripod is therefore a must.
The sound is much more "vintage" than from the NT1-A which in my opinion both voice and instruments come good. Had in the A / B comparison with the 1A can establish that the NT1 of the voice to penetrate more in the mix and at the same time the hiss is not as hard as the 1A.
The black finish looks fine and is also suitable for live recordings (choir / orchestra), and does not interfere with the color.
Last but not least there is the exceptionally good price-performance ratio and the extremely low noise. Nevertheless, a high-quality preamplifier is recommended. For me, this is usually a Mindprint EnVoice.
