I've bought DP88 to expand my home studio with Apollo 8 silver. It is a really good combination. Now I can record drums and more outputs make my monitoring very flexible. The quality of preamps are excellent and ad/da converters are amazing.

Good mic with 8 A / Ds & independent D / A's!

Application:
intended as an extension for digital systems (DAW or desk) and therefore equipped with completely independent 8 D / A (many preamps use the same analog outs for mic or OR DA conversion!). That was also the reason for me to test the DP88, It is also remotely controllable via MIDI and can thus be placed directly at the source, as usual in many studios or in live recording.

Service:
About a display, 4 buttons and an endless knob can be through the preamps and regulate the Gain & P48, About 2 more buttons samplerate and sync mode is switched, there are 1 ledmeter and 1 P48 led per channel. As far as everything is clear and simple.
drawback:
The endless controller is, quasi as a 'single' control element quite small & 'cheap' running, and also still 'toxic', you have to touch very carefully to crank up individual dB steps, very annoying eg when corrections while tracking ...! A big button, possibly with grid, would be much better!

sound:
At first I doubted, to get a 'top' sound at a rather 'cheap' price ... then compared both the converters and the preamps against my previous favorites (SSL ADAs & Siemens V276 vintage pre) with a drum recording , After a few initial problems with the exact level adjustment (... louder, as you know, always sounds "better"!), I could not tell the difference between the different signal paths. This finally convinced me of the very good sound of preamp & ADAs, but the full score!

Domestic equipments:
The external 12V power supply is now better than a badly installed with appropriate hum interference ... sub-D input u. Exits = little space for many possibilities.
Would I still want a low-cut and va phase reverse, and there is no pad. But enough gain (60dB) and a separate line input in case of emergency.
But not a broken leg when feeding into a desk or DAW ...
drawback:
Unfortunately, when selecting the Direct (line-in directly on A / D) of the micpre capped (... differently than shown in the block diagram!) And is 'lost', instead, you have a duplicate of the line signal at the output (?? ), so there is no insert between preamp u. AD or their independent use no longer possible, although all Ein u. Outputs would be available! That should fix the developers still ... then it would be even more flexible and really top in this class!

Conclusion:
who wants a good sound, and with a few drawbacks in equipment / processing / service live & can save the wallet, which will enjoy it.
