For small loudspeakers (small bandettings) usable, but ...

Jan2345, 09.09.2015
... with louder settings.
I bought the device for my resonator guitar (second model, single cone) and was surprised by the results available on the Internet.

I used the device live a few times (Fete de la musique and in band setting with my string band, banjo, contrabas, resonatogitarre, singing). The first time I was quite satisfied with the result, it did not sound quite as strong as I wanted it to be (despite an external preamp a la PARA Acoustic DI by LR Baggs) but just as acoustically as possible and not like A piezo or what else you can try. Problems with feedback did not exist with sufficient distance from the amplifier sources. With additional settings on the mixer (the whole went then into a loudspeaker) additional heat could be added, great.
For a setting with mixing console (in a band with two guitars singing and percussion like Cajon, etc.) this micro-pickup was so. Right in front of the loudspeaker it poked something in my ear, but that was certainly due to the non-optimal settings. Into the overall picture of the band sound, my guitar fitted perfectly thanks to the natural acoustic sound. I do not take an F-hole with the Goose-neck but the Cone. Positions between both were too quiet and the F-hole variant was too bassy and feedback-prone in the bandsetting. In the studio or so may be different.
The best thing was the Cone-decrease, which could then be formed with preamp or mixer EQ to the sound you want.

In the setting with acoustic guitar amplifiers (one for the resonator guitars, one for the banjo and a small bass amplifier), however, there were some problems on a carriage stage. For example, the other microphone signal (vocals) from my amplifier went into the small Myers-Gooseneck-PU, which caused disturbing, even dripping background noises. Annoying. So I had to go behind my amplifier (Marshall Acoustic 50 Watt, two channels) during the concert so that this problem could be absorbed.

For small concerts, this is very useful, which can not be changed on the instrument. With a preamplifier still inflatable sound, but at some point quite feedback-compulsive or at high volumes other signals are transmitted (perhaps also by the cone of the resonator guitars?).

- Very natural sound, just like a microphone (but it is fixed: during the game, no change in position and thus change of sound possible, which is otherwise so appealing with microphone)
-Thank volume control adjustable volume (for solos turn around)
- do not have to make any changes to the instrument

-converses at a certain volume with other instruments, possibly secondary and noise
-Not easy to control at high loudspeakers (feedback about)

For the offer offered by Thomann (several less than at the manufacturer) quite a worthwhile alternative to the unmanageable pickup market. How to treat a micro, but like a pickup. Great. But not quite easy at higher volumes, where a passive pickup should not have problems. So a compromise matter: Good sound or much output / resp. No feedback-susceptibility (or both, but then probably more expenditure).

Good for all

I've tested this tiny mike (matchbox size) on my Ukulele (the purpose of the purchase) but also on my accordeon, classical guitar and resonator guitar. It responded well to my wishes. The sound is loud and clear.
Only two things must be said:
The mike works on a 3v tiny battery (you do not need "phantom") but there is no way to know if it's worn off. You'll need a screwdriver to change the battery.

The suction cup needs to be well moistened to stick properly. Besides, the mike is so small that the suction is endangered by the weight of the plugged cable itself. You need to secure the 6,35 cable also it will pull the mike off the instrument.
It's ok if you play sit down but rather uncomfortable when you jump and dance on stage (as I do).
