Unbelievable depth for its size and price
raindeer 24.08.2020
The quality and depth of this module is excellent. I try to avoid screens and menu-diving in eurorack so that was a major draw and I'd say Plaits gets the level of complexity about right too. The manual is definitely needed though since it is not intuitive enough to learn the functions just through experimentation (for example, the model-select buttons also function as kind of 'shift' buttons for certain functions.)
You wouldn't buy this for any of the models alone since deeper versions of them all are available: the resonator is based on Rings; the waveshaping oscillator is based on Tides; the classic waveforms, chords, drums and noise are good but there are dedicated alternatives if that's what you want... and so on. But to have it all so accessible in 12hp and for this price is wonderful. Sound design is through three knobs which function differently depending on the model (Harmonics, Timbre and Morph) plus FM and there are three attenuverted CV inputs. Honestly, more than the sounds themselves, I think this is a masterpiece in minimalist interface design.
One con: having spent quite a while trying to adjust the Frequency knob I'd gladly give up one or two of the 16 models to have a way of fine-tuning. Although note you can reduce the range of the knob from 8 octaves to a more manageable range.

So much in this little thing!
Kaixo 08.01.2020
This is the first Eurorack Oscillator module I bought, and I am really glad I went with this one. It has so many features, you will not get bored with this thing. It has 8 modes for making cool pitched sounds, and 8 more modes to make percussive/drum sounds. I also like that it has even more variety in sounds if you switch to the AUX output, which carries a variant, sidekick or by-product of the main signal.

I have used this to make cool drum beats. But you can also create complete mayhem if you use a random voltage generator to randomly set the modes, which can create some awesome glitch loops.

All in all, if you want a versatile module that will not bore you, choose this one!

What an awesome awesome awesome oscillator!
SynthNerd 01.10.2019
This is the perfect drone machine and digital oscillator.

I bought it because i originally wanted to get mutable instruments tides to run the wavetable firmware on it. But as tides v2 doesn’t offer this firmware paul from mutable instruments told me that they fully implemented the firmware in plaits.

And besides the super awesome wavetable oscillator i bought it for, it offers 15(!) different other oscillators that all sound awesome!

you can use it as drone/freerunning oscillator or use its built in decay envelope/vca.

so far i made a few patches with clouds and in a dubtechno track and its exactly what i was looking for.

i would give them 10 stars if i could, also for the custom support, i was asking them for the firmwarehack on saturday, and got a friendly and helpful answer on sunday morning.

keep on the great work mutable instruments!

J
Very nice module
JanMonk 26.11.2019
Bought this after hearing a YouTube demo. My first eurorack module, actually. I use it with an Arturia Minibrute 2S, so I have some more time to think about which additional modules I need. I'm missing an adsr and vca module, that's for sure, but I'm temporarily using the ext input of the minibrute to compensate. It sounds fantastic and is quite easy to handle and understand. There's not a real manual included, but there's lots of information on the Internet and multiple demos, reviews and tutorials on YouTube. Highly recommend this module!
