Good sound for the price but?

26.06.2016
Hello,

When I received my MSI, I was running on an old Power PC. It worked quite well and for the sound I had at the time, I was satisfied:

Interesting sounds, some very beautiful, a rather complete library.
The ropes are equipped with a lot of joints.
One may wonder why some of them are present in some libraries and are missing in others but there is something to be done.
In addition, there are really two different sets for the first and second violins, which is nice when you really use them in orchestra and not only in arrangement.
I love violas, they have the trunk, the roundness and the softness of this set of strings and take advantage of additional joints that spoil nothing.
The sound of the strings (friction) is present and can draw some benefits when we love, otherwise it will be necessary to see the mix how to fel. That said, the high cut filter is perfectly controllable both in cutoff height and resonance and amplitude. This allows to play on presence and expressiveness.

A loosely looped loop makes two or three legato notes unusable in double basses (cut effect). Too bad anyway! Only major flaw that I could note in this symphomatic orchestra.

Beautiful brass sounds, too. The horns of harmony sound.
A lot of trumpet sounds more or less slamming and soloists pushed enough if you do not use it too intensively (the defects of human play are sound qualities sought when the notes do not repeat too often?)

A big "but?" :
The MSI engine is made for a 32-bit computer and no longer works in 64 bits.
Soluble problem because you have to go see expensive UVI software to charge (for free!) A compatible engine. It will be necessary to recompose its own patches from there. A little work in perspective.
I did not find the basic reverbs of the MSI. Rather embarrassing.

In terms of capacity, all this is not very greedy RAM and can compose beautiful pieces.
It must still provide its own settings to organize the joints between them or provide more tracks.
With organization, it's still playable and enjoyable.

It may be better to use it as a complement to another library for its singularities and charm.
Beginner in MIDI, abstain. It's not GM at all!

Having recently acquired another symphonic library (from a competitor MOTU) that has nothing to do in terms of quality or price, I will not depart from this library for which I have a particular affection. She has these flaws and her qualities!

I love.

Very good alternative to traditional midi-tones

Thomas080, 11.12.2009
In my search for the most acceptable instrumental sounds of the classical period, I was faced with the decision of the Halion Symphonic or the Motu Symphonic Instrument. As it was then. As far as I remember a price-wide difference was (I think 150 euros against 450 euros) I have decided for the far more favorable Motu and did not regret it. Only for the choirs and, as I have said, for the harp sounds, an investment in Halion would be more meaningful.

Apart from that everything is represented here what one in the classic needs with depending on the instrument also different playing techniques. For the strings, for example, Pizzicato, short concise stop, light long stroke as well as tremolo. Or facet as a whole ensemble or the instrument simply solo. In addition, the program sequencer has a lot of settings for Attack, Decay, Sustain and Gain. (I personally recommend, for the experimental minds among you, the instruments times by an AMP plugin and / or lingering effect to beat, there are interesting tones =)

So in my opinion (and with proper handling, that is, if one is composing with the composing) one can tickle really quite authentic, coherent compositions from the program. Listen to the demos on the manufacturers page. Just go to google Motu Symphonic Instrument.
