Cost-effective alternative for home-grown loudspeakers
I had the DM-50 directly with the roughly 100, - EUR more expensive Roland PM-10 compared and both on a (older) Roland V-Drum TD-10 tested. With the stereoklang of the satellite loudspeakers against the monosound of the PM-10, I was sure the cheaper DM-50 could only win.
Unfortunately, I have to say, however, who can spend the 100, - EUR more, the do, because sound can not keep the DM-50 despite stereosound.
Also in the processing the DM-50 is built for the more tender handling, especially as regards the soft cloth covering of the satellite loudspeakers. This does not have to be a disadvantage, however, if the entire home is to be installed permanently and is not transported. Also the bugs with which the satellites are connected to the ground monitor are of the very thinnest kind.
At a louder room volume, the volume control of the DM-50 was already in the last quarter, while the PM-10 was not even halfway. The DM-50 also has a clearer sound.
The sound of the DM-50 is less "round" than the PM-10. While the monosound of the PM-10 differs physically in space and gives the impression that the individual sounds are spatially real from the played drums, the DM-50 sounds rather metallic / nasal, two-dimensional and the sounds come perceptibly out of direction the speaker.
In terms of operation, the DM-50 offers an additional center control (the PM-10 "only" bass and treble), but no separate volume control for the Aux input. In practice, however, would not disturb me, since I can also control the Aux signal directly at the source.
Conclusion: If one had not the direct comparison and want to pay attention to the budget, then the DM-50 has its very existence, otherwise in terms of sound quality but rather to the brand manufacturer.
