Martin D 18 New 2012 model

TonyB1, 05.05.2013
The new D 18 features upgrages including higher grade spruce for the top, ebony bridge and fretboard, the width at the nut is 4.45 which is wider than most standard acoustics but does help with certain types of playing, but does take getting used to. The features and workmanship are what we should expect from a martin guitar, the sound however, is quite incredible all across the range, amazing. I use it for all styles of music. I have other quality guitars including Martins, Gibsons and Taylors and nothing compares to the D 18. Definately try it.

Great sound, poor processing

Lemmji, 26.05.2015
After a long struggle, I finally decided to buy a "real" Western guitar. I already have 2 Dreadnoughts, but they play in a much lower price class (both about 400 euros).

I'm trying to keep it relatively short: Martin uses high-quality wood, you can see, the sound is really great, it sounds like my other guitars come alive, and just in the heights Martin has a shine and a silence that is just fun Makes play. The slightly wider neck (44.5mm or 44mm compared to the 43mm of my other guitars) was not as good as I hoped for, despite the slight differences to my other guitars, but you know what you're getting into.

What I was disappointed with and what is the reason for this is that I have received the model that I received, is the processing. To make it clear: I'm not talking about lacrupts or gross mistakes, but for such an expensive instrument I have expected far more. Summarizing: scratches on the head plate, sharp edges of the cords in the first 3 frets, glue marks at the neck transition and at the bridge, lack of varnish at the edge of the sound hole, 2 small scratches on the dashboard (I can still shed the most pain) In addition, the fingerboard looks somewhat coarse, has a kind of "wave pattern". I will surely have caught a Montague model, but my first trip to the Martin world was not a nice one and especially a short one. Let's hope that the D-28 I now intend to order is something different.
