Firstly, a comment on Thomann's service. Absolutely faultless! I ordered my bass on Tuesday at midnight and it arrived at my home in the UK at lunchtime on Friday.
The bass itself looks, feels and above all sounds like an instrument costing two or three times the actual price. The set-up out of the box was good - a minor adjustment was needed to the E string which was too low, but this only took about 30 seconds to correct. The active electronics provide lots of options for tweaking the output, but just leaving it in the passive mode gives a nice warm bass sound.
Overall, the M3 is thoroughly recommended. Anybody thinking of spending hundreds on a more expensive bass should look at the Marcus Miller range and consider whether the money saved could be spent on an amplifier.

Beginner's bass? Much more!
Actually, he should only be a sensible addition to mine P- and Jbasses. Perfectly adjusted the bass arrived, and very quickly realized how much potential is slumbering here: the processing tiptop, the Riegelahorn blanket a feast for the eye, playability a pleasure. When played dry, you can hear a taut, woody, resonant sound that resonates for a long time (string through bridge). At the amp then the confirmation of the first impression: already passively a multitude of assertive sounds for all playing styles, always present, never harsh or mumpy. With the 18V active control then again a noticeable increase of the sound options, although I already the pure passive operation absolutely convinces, since here the Holzkombination mahogany / Riegelahorn is more effective. The bass is a real inspiration.
