Overall a very decent product

I had a chance to visit Thomann, and compared a few different in ear monitors. I concluded that for this price range, Mackie MP-240 is probably some of the best.

The sound is best described as simple and crispy, like a pair of good dual driver IEMs should sound. The package includes MANY different types of ear pieces, including foam pieces, to accomodate different types of ears. Surely not the most amazing pair of IEMs I've ever used but definitely cost effective.

I've gigged with these IEMs several times since, the longest gig being around 2 hours long. They aren't the most comfortable in ears, but they don't hurt my ears or jaws or give me a headache. The most important is that the seal is good (not perfect at times), and they don't fall out of my ears. Sweat doesn't seem to cause any trouble.

The build quality is solid, definitely no complaints here. The cable is interchangeable with Shure IEMs, which is a huge plus - I believe Shure has some of the most sturdy cables. Switching the ear pieces can be a gigantic pain as it is extremely difficult to get the rubber around the sound canal.

Good product for a fair price

The Mackie MP-240 is very well made and wears relatively well. Having a piece of plastic or rubber in your ear is always not so pleasant.

The external noise insulation is in accordance with bad fit, as with me (it is probably due to my non-standard ear canals and less of the variety of tips that are included) quite permeable to ambient noise. On my last train ride, I could not hear the music and especially the basses badly, because trains produce quite loud driving noises especially in the low mid-range (also in ICE 1st class).

Overall, the sound is very studio-precise. The reproduction of the bass is (as always with earphones) strongly dependent on the fact that the listener sits really close tightly in the auditory canal. It is worthwhile to try a little longer with the various inserts (ear plugs), so that you get both a firm, but not oppressive seat, as well as a good soundproofing, the prerequisite for a perfect listening experience.

Unfortunately, I had to realize that my cranked ear canals do not quite match the tips supplied and therefore I hardly get to hear bass.

The mids and heights are very balanced and are reproduced very precisely and with high resolution. The precision of the midrange and treble reproduction is about the same as that of a studio headset in the $ 200 range. This is quite remarkable for a walkman headphone. Of course you need for a high-resolution, accurate playback and a correspondingly good walkman, I've done to me yet.

In this respect, I would like to call the Mackie MP-240 as cheap, because the price / performance ratio is right, if you have the matching ears.

As accessories, three pairs of earplugs in three different sizes are supplied as flexible, filled foam balls with sound hole (which can be squeezed before insertion so that they slide more easily into the ear canal), pine trees and the usual hollow balls. There should be something suitable for almost every user with normal auditory canal geometries.

Also very helpful is the delivery of a robust, waterproof plastic box for safe transport of the handset and an adapter to a large stereo jack, for example, if you like a stereo or similar. want to plug in.

Meanwhile, I have a hearing comparison with an MP-220 can perform and must say that the price difference for me is clearly audible and the MP-220 is for me no (cheaper) alternative to the MP-240, because the MP-220 much dissolves worse than the studio-precise, clear and high-resolution sounding MP-240.

Unfortunately I had to take the whole step because of the bad seal against external noise and the associated weak playback of the basses and buy a much more expensive earphone from Ultimate Ears with earplugs custom made to my ear canal impressions. Now everything is fine with me and I'm very happy to have taken the last step.

For people with commercially shaped ear canals, the MP-240 might be worth a try.
