Overall, quite pleased!!

29.08.2016
I play classical guitar and cello. Usually I tune with a tuning fork and do the rest by ear, but I wanted something to use as a base guide to make sure I wasn't ever too far out!!

If you are looking for just a guitar tuner, then I would recommend any of the cheaper Korg or Boss models - they do just as good job for a cut of the price. I particularly bought this for tuning the cello, as intonation can be tricky to nail when tuning by ear.

The microphone is okay, but background noise will throw the accuracy out. I also bought Korg's contact microphone to accompany this (not currently sold on Thomann, but easily sourced from other retailers), and it works far more accurately with it. Just clip it on the bridge, plug it into the tuner, and you're away.

This model is designed to suit a range of orchestral instruments - I would imagine on brass and woodwind instruments with less tonal fluctuation during tuning it's a bit better. Personally I found it incredibly sensitive for tuning stringed instruments (I tested it on two guitars, a cello and a violin). Initially I found this quite frustrating as tuning took about 20 minutes to get correct, but you quickly get used to it, and get quicker with practice.

The feature which rates tuning stability and dynamics is one that rather intrigued me, but I've found for strings it doesn't really work. Again, it may well work better on brass or woodwind. But for strings it tunes too sensitively to lock onto the notes to quickly give a reading for the dynamics or stability. Definitely not quick enough to use as a practice tool whilst playing - but I had a little success when playing scales slowly, it does help with intonation slightly on unfretted instruments. But it is a gimmick, and shouldn't really be the sole reason for purchasing this tuner. Again, there's far better and cheaper models which could do the same or better job if you don't need this feature.

The metronome is good however, and I can't really fault it. It does go quite loud, which is good, and it does have an output to use headphones is you prefer that. It's does everything I'd expect a good quality digital metronome to do.

One other tiny niggle if that there's no option to use a power supply with this model, and you must use AAA batteries. This means if you're using it to check you intonation whilst practicing, you could potentially end up getting through quite a lot of batteries!!

Overall, it's a nicely built and quality finished unit, which largely performs well as the role as a tuner and metronome. Certainly no worse than any of the other tuners I've had, but not noticeably better either. The dynamics/stability feature is a nice gimmick, but may not really work for all instruments.

Mostly pleased with my purchase, but a little disappointed it's not quite as flawless as other Korg products I've owned!!

Tuner without transpose mode

Palex, 13.07.2018
Transpose (C, Eb, Bb and F) missing on the tuner. With this ability the device would be perfect! For all kind of orquestal instruments.
