Koch Amps Studiotone Combo B-Stock

B-stock with Full Warranty

Slight traces of use

Guitar Combo Amp

The amps of the Dutch company Koch are no longer an insider tip. Nice tube sound, at the same time flexible and settled in a fair price class - these are the most important infos in advance. The studiotone combo could attract all guitarists who want to use the warmth and distortion of a power amplifier at tolerable volumes. On the other hand, this Amp with its 20 W also has clean reserves, which should be sufficient in most cases.

Which brings us to the clean channel, which has quite Fender-like qualities: You can choose from fat to sparkling sounds here, with 2 voicing switches (2x for mid, 3x for treble), which effectively modify the sound. The overdrive channel on the other hand really takes off - strong, warm tube sound located between the rough British and settled American sound. The gain will be enough for most people. The Overdrive Boost channel, boosts the same sound even stronger and thus also hi-gain applications are covered. The 3 sounds share one equalizer - in the studio no problem anyway. But also for live applications it is no problem, because the gain staging between clean and overdrive is already set.

The 12" VG12 Koch loudspeaker installed here is built in cooperation with Jensen and it fits perfectly to this small power cube. A highlight not only in the studio, but also when you have a quite delicate situation with the volume live: A Recording-Out with two simulated speaker types and microphone positions is located at the back. If you have to play silently, one can switch on the power soak and send the signal directly to the mixer - completely without any noise. Excellent tube sound with many useful features - not just for the studio!

The small sound machine, super alternative

Oli F., 23.12.2011
For 16 years, I have been the proud owner of a Boogie Mark IV and have played countless studio and livejobs in these years as a professional musician with Les Paul and Strat. But - especially in the live situation, one is too loud with the boogie, in small clubs anyway. The Boogie is simply not quietly playable, also not in the Tweed power mode. And the other drawback of this really horny amp: It weighs 45 kilos. So now we come to the real hero of this report, the cook Studiotone.

It is easy to carry and basically has the same features as the Mark IV, ie three channels, whereby one would rather say two and a half channels, since the Overdrive plus can only be adjusted in intensity or can be changed with a toggle switch - HLM - for high Gain, mid gain and low gain.

So if you play on Channel 2, the Overdrive Channel, you can use the included footswitch to switch the Overdrive Plus as a kind of booster, the signal becomes louder and more intense - in most cases for the solo.

The clean channel is clean for a long time, starting from approx. Half Potiweg begins, depending on the guitar, also a slight strain. But you do not really need it, there is the Overdrive channel.

The footswitch has two pushbuttons, which can easily crack easily but is ok The left pushbutton selects either the clean or the overdrive channel, the right switches from Overdrive to Overdrive Plus. So if you want to go from clean to Overdrive plus I have to press twice, first left then right. This is easily cumbersome, you have to internalize.
A pity I also find that for the Overdrive plus only the mentioned toggle switches and no separate volume regulator.

The sound control is simple, but effective and always affects all channels - bass, mid, treble. In addition, there is a mid switch of the 800 Hz or 2000 Hz featured. And a bright switch of highs raises, neutral holds or lowers. These two switches are great for the tonal correction of Les Paul and Strat.

The quality of the reverb is rather average.
Nice is the output section on the back, you have in the Line Out section different speakers and microphone setting modes. Thus, if you want to do without the "right" microphone pickup, you can choose its sound in the line out for the FOH mixer.
The line out section is a little bit heavy, for my taste sounds a SM 57 or similar. The front is still better, but it is always practical.

It is also possible to switch off the speaker, there is also a headphone input. The standby switch cracks occasionally. Effect loop is also available.
As a resume, I can not praise the amp high enough, it sounds gigantic, especially also quiet and yet with a super distortion. The weight is a huge plus. The handling is conceivably simple, you can also find on a dark stage the right potis, all of which run excellently.

The price is ok, that I had to order the protective sleeve for EUR 45.00 separately, I find a pity, but what solls. The super-processed cook is a prima little sound machine and for me a real alternative to my Boliden Mark IV, which I will continue to use with large things. The cook is the amp for studio, living room and small stages.

Perfectly brilliant!

Reinhold K., 03.02.2013

Perfectly brilliant!" data-mt-lang="en-x-mtfrom-de" data-translated="I was looking for a guitar amp for rehearsals and smaller gigs.
