terrific keyboard controller- great customizable sounds

This is primarily a piano w/ some really good mag/electric piano sounds. But this piano is a terrific MIDI controller as well. The keyboard and the solid construction are the best reasons to buy this unit. The MP11 is incredibly solid and the keyboard will help you find your better musician.

Note: while I rate the handling at 5 stars, the MP11 is a beast; however, you don't get the worlds' best keyboard in a durable instrument for free. I think the size and weight are exactly appropriate for what the instrument brings with it.

I've had a Yamaha KX-88 for many years as a MIDI controller. Difficult to criticize that for what it is but it wasn't easy to program and it always felt like a controller. Still it had had its purpose. The MP11 is really a piano ...wrapped in a controller ... wrapped back up in a piano. Great sounds, very expressive piano and mag/electric piano sounds - with great customization capabilities. The interface is intelligent and fairly intuitive. Keyboard is really the outstanding thing about the MP11. Add some hammer delay to pianos and you suddenly have a weighty and venerable Steinway; you can almost feel its weight and affects how you play, adding much more of an organic component than would otherwise be there. Very convincing to the pianist... translating I think into convincing recordings.

The size and weight will be an issue for some people/situations. Although the wheels are up-top rather than beside the keybed, the substantial structure of the unit itself still occupies almost as large a footprint as many other keyboards that have the pitch/mod wheels beside the keys. The word "tank" might come to mind. But I prefer the word "console" - it's such a great instrument and controller that you'll probably not want to turn away to play another keyboard; this will immediately become your primary instrument or controller if you practice or perform instead of "play."

In my opinion: as with any piano sounds produced from electronics and speakers, it's all about EQ, compression and reverb. Your mileage will vary with your recording, headphone or amp setup. If you're looking to have a concert piano materialize upon arrival, you'll need to consider your amplification, recording or sound reproduction system.

The FM sounds are probably good enough (if you're into FM sounds) but I won't say more about that.

Four things that I really would have liked to have seen added would have been: (1) digital audio over the USB instead of just MIDI/data ... (2) some organ/B3 sounds... and (3) support for TRS balanced inputs and outputs... and (4) several more assignable sliders.

One criticism in the implementation: very awkward to use the "Setup" presets: Banks A-Z of eight (8) each setups each; however only six (6) setups for each bank are visible in the display at a time. I'd honestly have preferred A-Z with six (6) setups each --- it's really awkward to have to scroll down to the two non-visible setups in each bank. Weird UI decision.

Top keyboard and top instrument with obstacles

JochenH, 15.06.2014
Watch out, all the friends of the well-groomed attack !!!
With the MP-11, all those who are looking for a top keyboard along with a good Pianoklang will finally find something.
I have however first a 4 weeks "suffering time" with a total of 3 trips to Thomann and 2x instrument exchange behind me, but still would like to recommend the instrument warmly.
In addition to the Yamaha CP4 Stage, Roland RD 800 and Nord Stage, I also took into consideration what instrument would be useful.

I've been penned between Thomann's piano gallery and the classic pianos and wings of Yamaha and Kawai and the Synthesia Department to check which Stagepiano is approaching analog technology.
In short, if you are looking for a stagepiano, which should remind you halfway of the playing culture of a real piano, the MP-11 will not miss.

Especially the 11mm lever travel of the keys and also the woodworking, the grip of the keys and also the playability from piano to fortissimo, are looking for in this price class of their own. The repetitions are simply great in runs, tinkers and also suggestions, the keys fly the fingers formally.

But still short to my 3 Thomannbesuchen.
I had changed the instrument twice, because once the Fis button and the second instrument the two-string C did not repeat analogously to the other buttons. I would have expected that in the case of the advance blueberries to Kawaitastatur, however, that this works flawlessly.

But the good advice from Mr. Jöchner and the enormous willingness to help the Thomas service team come to the fore. Above all, Mr Falk from the service gave me a lot of support. And finally I had the 3rd Thomannbesuch the possibility on the spot shortly the purchased instrument to play and the keyboard on their correctness to examine.
Thanks again to Mr. Falk in particular !!!

Clear purchase recommendation!
